Mine has the sense turned up to almost max, but still runs quiet.
Can't get closer than a foot to big iron like fence poles or tot-lot equipment, but not a problem at all because there is always a distinct double beep if I roll over a good target...even inches away from these things.
Got mine the end of last August and immediately started finding great stuff I missed with other detectors and tons of clad, too.
I will never get rid of this for any reason, and I firmly believe every hunter should have one of these in the arsenal.
Just a few of my great finds...

hi ken, try searching in this forum: compadre sensitivity mod, here are several posts about how to do it. My advice is be gentle when doing the adjustment and don't set it too high
becareful the chatter issue, it could be cause by alkali soils (the compadre don't like salts) or a problem with the coil connector
