New Detector Help Please

I am considering getting a new machine and am looking at the 505, 705 and Safari...can someone help with the advantages/disadvantages of each? How is the recovery speed of each? Depth? Any information would be great! Thanks!!!

I believe the Safari will have the slowest recovery speed. You can not go wrong with the 705 it is so versatile.

Joshua: My 705 arrives Saturday so I don't have any first-hand experience to share. Digger will probably chime in.
I did a fair amount of research and the 705's versatility really appealed to me. The trick right now is finding one in stock!

Don't have a Safari, but do have a Quattro which is basically just older version of Safari and have a Xterra 70. Don't see any real advantage of the Quattro over the Xterra 70 except on wet salt sand at the beach. Depth seems about the same, Xterra is way lighter and recovery on the Xterra is much faster then the Quattro. In the wet sand the Quattro is superior to most VLF detectors out. For an all round detector the Xterra is hard to beat. JMHO

Thank you!

I don't have any experience with the Safari but have a lot of experience with the Explorer and the FBS machines have a much slower recovery time than the X-terra. My first X-terra was a X-50 and I really did not care for it. The 705 on the other hand is probably my favorite detector ever !! I don't think you can go wrong with it if you take time to learn it. It is plenty deep, has good recovery speed and you can swing the dang thing all day without your arm and shoulders killing you. The versatility of this detector is like no other!! You can tailor make your detector for each hunt merely by selecting the right coil !!I The 705 would definitely be my choice.

I've never used a Safari so can't speak to its' functionality... however, save yourself some $'s and just go with the 705.

If you buy the 505, you'll find yourself wanting to upgrade to the 705 in a short while. The 705 is really easier to use than the 505 (auto noise cancel, auto GB & GB tracking) and yet offers so many more additional features to make much more versatile. It's well worth the additional cost.

I started with the 305 but look at the signature below for what I use now.

Good luck!
