New Digger Coil Finds Very Old Unknown Coin

Yes, we are happy for her. That's the first 1700's coin in the family. I think my brother found an 1808 Large Cent so this coin has a few more years on it
Here is why I think the coin is a 1745. If you look at the distance between the top of the neck just under the hair all the way to the bottom of the collar that ends where the dot is next to the X. The 1740 appears to be shorter and more arched slightly upwards kind of like a humped back for lack of a better term. The 1745 is longer and more straight and slightly curved in towards the front of the body. Aside from that they are very similar.
One thing that is pretty cool which besides the shape of the head giving away that it's a King George, if you look at the good example above, notice the first I in II is where the dent is in the upper part of the back of the head. You can see the first I is in the exact same spot in the one that she found and you can see the second I although it is not as prominant as the first I. One of my two pictures above shows the ai a little better than the other. I wish the other side of the coin had some detail but it's pretty smooth. I may look at that a little closer now that we've narrowed down the year.

You know, last year I found an 1858 Flying Eagle cent. Someone had used it as a washer and there was no definition to it, it just looked like a copper slug. It was so close to a penny size that I started looking closer. I ended up sanding it with 400 grit paper and then I could see the date, an eagle outline, and ERICA along the edge.
To me it was one of my coolest finds, because this area just isn't old enough for a coin like that.

That would be cool. The picture that I show above of the 1745, the coin is flat as if scanned. My picture is on a slight angle because if I didn't tilt it I could not get a good view of the image. I think an overlay will show that it's about as close to a 1745 than anything even with the slight angle differences.

Thanks idugthatup....After all of the pictures of coins that I went through I can't think that it would be any other year. The years on either side of it were different designs all together. The newer ones were way off. If it's not a 1745 then it's something older that I just haven't found an example of yet. We still think there is more at the site. Once it cools down a little I'm sure that we will go back.

I have so many places I wanna detect but the nails and yesteryear trash is driving me crazy! Ill for sure send it back tomorrow only if I get it today! Trying to sell my Brunswick pool table and poker table then ill get the digger!

I will say that you should go fairly slow with the Digger coil. Just like with the Minelab MF coil, it's reaction time is a little slower than the HF coils. I use mine in a modified pattern with the lowest number notched out along with 46 & 48. Yes, there is a post currently running that talks about not notching out those higher numbers but I'll take my chances. After digging literally hundreds of 46's and 48's and never coming up with anything worthwhile, I'll take my chances. This coil is especially hot in those upper numbers. I also use Ground Balance Tracking with that coil most of the time.
I have found more notable coins in such a short period of time with that coil and just about every good find was on a site that we felt was nearly hunted out.
