New E-Track Question??????????

mickfin

Active member
5/3/10 I is going to get a E , Can someone give me some pointers on the New E-Track for my first time out what would it be, Thanks all,
Mickfin

Hi Mikfin,
Spend a little time ready Andys book and on the e trac emulator and mess around with it a bit while you are waiting...that helped me know the functions and sounds a bit...then when you do get the machine in your hands give it a good scratch behind the ears and just have fun in the first good spot you can find. take some of your coins with you and practice a bit with them. Dont go to your hardest hunting spot till you have put some time in on the easy spots...then just go slow and be curious...lots of fun stuff hiding in the ground.

Thanks Utah how do i find the Emulator???? Mickfin

Just had this question posed to me privately and had to think about it for a little while. I think (in my 100+ hour experience) I would sum it up by saying The Minelab Explorer & E-Trac Handbook by Andy Sabisch. Other than that, I've found when you hit a coin the E-Trac will lock on hard. Don't get discouraged or overwhelmed.

I've been fortunate in that I have many, many places to hunt besides worked out parks or ball fields. I have probably 60 gone or abandoned home sites I can get permission to, within 5 miles of where I live. I can count 12 gone or no longer used schools within 8 mile radius. The hunting can be hard and discouraging when all you get is a null for 10 feet. Your attitude on how you handle those type of situations will reflect on your success. I went to 4 house sites littered with trash remnants this last week and come home with 5 memorial cents to my name (6-7 hours of hunting). Went back to the place I've been filming and pull out 2 silver dimes 3 wheats and 2 IH's. Will I hit those house sites again? Will I hit the parks in nearby towns that haven't produced much of anything for me? Absolutely. I have determined I'm in it for the long haul on this machine.

So if you can find such places (research) that you can get all by yourself and listen, dig, and learn it builds up your confidence. Watch OhioCoinHunter, NiagraCountyNY, Neswiper, Vidslayer, Goes4Ever, JB103081, Dr.Bob's videos on youtube and others. They help tremendously!!!

This site has also been invaluable to me as well!!!

1. Etrac likes a slower swing speed, particually in high trash/iron.

2. If you want deepies you'll need to open the pattern a bit from the default coin pattern due to the "FE Shift" (covered in Andy's book somewhere)

3. Read Andy's book a couple times over the 1st 50hrs to 100hrs, as different parts will make sense as you gain experience and help all the pieces come together.

4. You might need a longer digging tool too ;)

Good luck

Please use this fourm and search under the key work emulator...there are lots of posts about it with links to it. You will also want to find the link with the USA coins if you are from the US, as the original emulator comes with french coins I think. All this is free but you will need to follow the insturctions they give in those posts to use it. I highly recomend it and it will save you lots of time in the field by playing with the settings and learning your machine before it gets to your door.

Thanks Neb, Iv ben Detectinf 4R 20+ years the E-Track is my first Minelab, Ben with Whites I wanted to dig Deeper and i hear the E can do it????
You gata Give me credit for jumping the fence, Its Like im a newbie again i have a friend with a Track,

Hi again Mickfin,
I also came over after years with Whites but I started out with an EX II about 6-7 years ago. There is definetly a learning curve for the whites user to switch to the Dark side (minelab). The sound is key with these machines and you will need to get your brain used to the sounds so you can interpet them. I have never felt like it was very difficult to figure out the functions and settings of the machine as it comes with a book and you can read about whatever you dont know...Then apply it or try it or just hunt in the pre set up modes. It is deffinetly a powerfull machine and you will just want to learn what you can as you can. The book by Andy gives supper advice and the Emulator will give you some head start but nothing beats just getting out and learning in real time.

Find a good spot and have fun

Whats going on Etrac Bro,

Can't wait for your new Etrac to get in so we can hit our old spots which will be new again with our Etracs.:detecting:

Get out and practice, Swing slow and cover the ground as thorough as you can. Practice, practice, practice. Try to find someone that can give you a 10 minute lesson in the field. I did and it helped emensly. Then the The Minelab Explorer & E-Trac Handbook by Andy Sabisch will be alot easier to understand. Its a great book and well worth the money. Good luck, hope you find a can full of Silver Dollars.

I'd forgotten about this. But buckeyedigger on youtube has some pretty informative videos on the E-Trac menu with some explanation.

Im EXCITED!!!!!!!!!! about that Darryl, (Lake Hunter) Mickfin,

Thank You 4R all your INFO it got me ready so wen i do get the E-Track I can do it to it, Mickfin

The default coin pattern is a good place to start.
I sat in the woods today with the book Minelab book that comes with the detector. I just sat for a bit with a beer and black flies. I updated the discrimination patrtern and saved it as my pattern one. So, get out in a quite place, bring the book, don't rush. Try top avoid the temptation to 'get detecting' and figure a couple things out. Repeat as often as necessary. Swing slowly and cover everthing.
