new etrac 2012

No, I haven't heard anything about a new etrac. I don't see how they can really improve that much on the etrac, it's already the best detector out there and they have no problems selling them. I think minelab is very happy with the current model, I know that I am.

Lets see, where did I leave that picture of WHY THE @#$% DO WE HAVE TO DO THIS EVERY WEEK?!?!!!

I had the same question Ammerdeus. I've been vaccilating between a V3i and e-trac to upgrade from my DFX. I think the only reason I haven't already went with the e-trac is that I keep thinking they will release an upgrade soon. Just like everyone says ,though, even if/when they come out with an updated model there will still be nothing wrong with the "old" e-trac.
I'll bet a dollar to a donut that if I buy an e-trac today the new model will be announced immediately.

Well then just wait, while the rest of us "Hoover" up all the silver.........lol.....NGE

One BIG area of improvement could be with weight. Many many E-Trac users in Europe have switched to Deus' due to the weight (as well as to the lighter Fisher and Teknetics). But yes, the E-Trac goes deeper and I do prefer it. But there are quite a few areas they can improve. I have used a V3i extensively, and while the E-Trac is deeper in my soil, the V3i has a superior interface, screen, buttons, backlight, shortcut menu, etc. But the "Engine" in my soil is not as good, so I am going more with the E-Trac. And I think the two areas where the E-Trac really shines over other detectors is the 2D screen with 2 sets of VID numbers - This is great on deeper coins and second the sounds - Yes, I actually really like the E-Trac sounds. they are sort have All Metal nuances to them.

In all fairness, unless we compare other brands, then we can't really see where to improve. Sometimes one brand outselling the other is more due to a lack of choices, or to loyalty, advertisements, etc. than it is the brand being great at whatever it does. Now, yes the E-Trac is great, but there are many areas it can improve upon.

I bought one back in early December and the same thoughts crossed my mind;E-Trac has been on the market for years so its time for a new machine to come out. But, Ive never had a Minelab, and had followed the E-Trac since its arrival, even had Andys book for several years. I went, ahead, bought, to learn, get use to sounds and glad I did. I seem to be one of those that struggles.
One thing I do hope they improve on is the weight and egonomics. The screen needs to be tilted back just a tad.
But,its super great and easy to set up,once you get one and use it. I love the smart screen and open mask screen. So easy to swap between screens. I wish, it had a recall button for use of another pattern, but really its not bad the way it is now with its menu structure.
Im very satisfied, I bought one and I agree with earthmansurfer about the comparisons and areas of usage.
Even if they come out with a new one, the E-Trac will still be a relevant detector and have followers, just like the Explorers.

John
