New Etrac

Just wanted to say hello to everyone been on here since 2008 lurking , I just bought an etrac off New England metal detectors, great deal! so i'll be learning this beast in the coming months with the deep freeze in Maine. I also have a v3i, so I'll probably be comparing signals, looks like a great and busy sub forums to join. Thanks everyone.

Welcome. If you do not already have one, the Sunray X-1 probe would be a nice addition to the E-Trac, as well as the Rain Jacket for the main unit. I would recommend that you buy Andy Sabisch book "The Minelab Explorer & E-Trac Handbook". It has tons of info on the operation of the E-Trac and will help you set it up (settings & patterns) for optimal performance under any condition. Read the manual and the book and have fun playing with the PC interface and different disc patterns.

What part of Maine are you from? My wife's great uncle and aunt live in Freeport and we come up every summer to visit. Maine is a beautiful state and you cannot beat the cool summer weather.

Ok thanks for the suggestions, I do have Andy book coming I'm excited to read it. I use a garrett pin pointer now but may get an x-1 at somepoint. I'm from Bar Harbor ( Acadia National Park area) so a couple hours from Freeport.

I cannot wait " Bart at Big Boys Hobby" has the detector and I cannot wait. :hot: Doing battle with the new Minelab!!!! :starwars:

Good luck with your new machine. But in all honesty you will not need months to learn it. If you are at all familiar with the V3i the E-Tracs complexity comes down to just a few settings, really. Yes, maybe you will want to learn TTF, how to make patterns and such. But it is really really easy.

I looked at the deal that "Big Boys Hobby" is offering and it has an impressive list of accessories included. If I did not have an E-Trac already, I would be all over it. Just wondering if the Sunray X-5 coil that Bart is including (see his latest post) is above and beyond what is already in the deal.

Thanks for all the comments guys, should be a great adventure. I'll have to look into the TTF thing at the moment I don't know much about the settings of the etrac.

Ahhhh crap ! Someone else in Maine with an E-Trac, thats not good ! (JOKING BTW !) :chase:

You will love the E-Trac once you get the hang of things. I got mine a few months back, and in the first week of using it I found 3 silver rings. I've done all the reading on here on the detector and also read Andy's book (great read btw). I've been reading other posts on other forums too, and doing a ton of tests and looking at what works best for the area (Maine). The detector works well on the beaches here in the South of Maine from what I can tell so far, just waiting for a decent storm to move some sand so I can go and play.

I've used the TTF settings that Goes4ever uses, and it's a killer setup (thanks Terry for the info on your site). You might need to tweak the settings.

I had a few detectors since 2010, and so far the Minelab detectors (X-Terra 705 & the E-Trac) have met my needs. I still have the X-Terra 705 as a secondary detector (spare).

One thing I have found with the E-Trac, it can get a little heavy after a few hours due to the weight.

Good luck, HH.

Hey BH I checked out your website...all I can say is AWSOME! I absolutely love that gold key with diamonds. Just out of curiosity, how many days out of the week do get to MD.

Kim, thanks for the feedback, sweet.

Yeah, the gold key, Anne, my wife loves that key too, she wears it on a chain round her neck

I get out most days during the week in the summer after or before work, or both if I'm not too tired.

As for the winter months, it's down to the weekends, too dark and cold after work during the week, and now that we are snow covered here in Maine, I'm stuck with the coastal area's to detect in.
