New Excalibur 1000 user question

I just received my new Excalibur 1000 and plan on trying it at a lake this weekend. Any suggestions on setting it up and using it? I land detect with the Explorer II.

I have only been using my Excalibur a short time. I did read Clives book. Here is how mine is set up most of the time:
Disc: 0
Sens: about 12:30
Volume: full
Threshold: continually adjust it so you barely hear it

It works for me as I have 22 rings this month.
