New Excelerator 12.5" coil?

Has anybody tried the new 12.5" Excelerator coil on the MXT? I don't mean the 14" coil, I am talking about the new 12.5" coil.
Has anybody bought one yet? Seems the perfect size. The 14" is way too big for my taste.

I received the new 12.5 EXcelerator coil from Kellyco a few weeks ago. I have been putting it through a variety of tests and will be submitting my report soon. Right off the bat, I liked the weight and balance of the 12.5 and found it very easy to manuever. Much easier on the arm than most big coils. I am testing the coil for depth, sensitivity, target separation, pin pointing capabilities, VDI readings, discrimination characteristics etc. If there is any particular test you want me to perform, let me know.

I'm presuming this is also a DD coil? And do they have coil covers for this one? Looking forward to hearing your results - keep us posted. HH Sarge

This 12.5 coil is also a Double D coil. As with the other DeTech Excelerator coils, there are not any "factory" coil cover for the 12.5 either. JW tells me that the manufacturing facility has been secured and the covers are soon to be produced. Kellyco has been selling White's 6 inch covers for the 5 inch EXcelerators and they seem to fit the diameter of the coil pretty well. I did notice that it left about 1/2 - 3/4 inch air gap between the bottom of the coil and the cover and have considered taking out the Dremel tool and trimming off a bit of the cover's brim. I figured trimming the brim of the cover would allow the coil to be that 1/2 to 3/4 inch closer to the surface of the ground. Anyone actually done that yet?

John -- Kellyco sells a 12.5 inch round coil cover for Garrett coils. Might want to ask them if that would fit the Excelerator. --- John W.

Fisher coil covers, because you can hardly get the off without breaking them! It worked fine and your idea sounds perfectly workable too! <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=";)">
