new F70 tones & VDI help learning.

Hi All.

Just got my f70 in the mail today, grabbed a hand full of coins and ran outside to test her out. Coins were Walker Half, Barber dime, Clad Quarter, & 1800's large cent.

Ground balanced to instructions with a double digit VDI of 90. Is this a normal GB number?

Played with the sens, discrim, and all that. My NY soil runs real quiet can pretty much run as high as I want all around. So I went Sens 90, Thresh 0, Disc 20 as well as Disc in the quarter dime area. Dp and 3H tones.

Unfortunately my yard is well hunted out with the f2 I had, but I was able to get some blips here and there with low disc although the screen showed low confidence.

Here is the kicker. With the coins laying top soil, the Walker came in as a 21 as did the clad quarter and large cent. The Barber dime was 16. none would show up unless I was 4" or less over them sometimes the dime not at all. I was expecting WAY higher VDI numbers especially being silver.

The in ground junk also showed what should be realistic pin point depth numbers.

DD coil used don't have the concentric.

What's up with the depth and low VDI on those top soil coins?

Do a "factory reset" I think you depress and hold the GG and Menu button while you turn it on..."FF" should appear on the screen. then let go of the buttons...its in the owners manual somewhere....theres something wrong with those VDI's you posted for sure...The half should be a solid 92, the clad Q a 86, the dime mid 70s..give it another go and let us know if this worked...plenty of help here so don't hesitate to ask...

Thanks Mud.

I considered that but then when I tried finding the reset procedure again in the manual I couldn't locate it. Found it once though before I needed it. Derp. LoL.

I'll post back once I give it a try.

Very eager to get going given how hot I can run it in my native soil with no chatter although we'll see how the reset affects that too I guess.

Joyyyyy.

Skunked again.

Dug a 4" plug this time instead of unreliable surface air testing. Tested the Walker and Barber dime.

Did the factory reset. Hold GB + Menu while turning machine on. Did GB in At mode. Manual says if I get a 2 digit number I'm gtg. 90 is what I keep getting in my yard here. Although, admittedly I don't understand the "listen to the feedback tone" GB method.

Maybe I'm not GBing correctly?

Anyway. Again the Walker was 21 vdi and the dime was iffy at 4" and 16 vdi.

Funny though. I scanned the aluminum gutters and got 21 as well which should be a 90+ number. But, nuts & bolts on my sons skateboard are jumpy zinc/tab numbers which seems right.

Seems this machine does not like traditional high tone items???
Very confused here?
I'm hoping it's not a malfunction as I bought it second hand off a member here, I may be s.o.l. with Fisher service if it's a mechanical issue.

Pull out the batterys...that is just not right! Its gotta be something very simple...try new batterys, try reconnecting the coil wire...try all the simple things you can think of...should take you no more than a few minutes...once you factory reset, don't even ground balance, just sweep those coins on the surface and report back...I rarely ground balance anyway, especially if I'm clad grabbing in the top 4"...you should be getting solid pings and high numbers on your silver and clad coins..

Dude, I just tried to pm you with my phone number, but you are too new to the Forum to be enabled...I sure hope its just a scrambled to be danged program...and not a technical repair issue...lets get this figured out.

Thanks A L O T !

I'll have to get back to this tomorrow. Gotta get my son to lacrosse practice tonight and then I'm out of daylight.

I'll do all that an report back early tomorrow.

Ok.

Found the earphone jack I had that enlarges a small plug to fit the f70 outlet and gave her a run with the coins in the living room just now with the wife and kids sleeping.

I changed the batteries and undid the coil plug and re tightened it.

One of those did the trick. I'm getting the proper vdi numbers to go with the high tones on the silver coins.

After doing the factory reset though I can no longer go full hot, I have to set thresh to -2 or -1 depending on how close I am to the house and wires. Still though I can max out sens no prob.

Off to do some hunting tomorrow hopefully, IDK, I skirted my honeydo list today cuz of this thing so the wifey said I got twice the price to pay tomorrow. Still anxious though to get her on virgin ground. I got a spot I didn't finsh with the f2 the other day where I unearth a '57 Washington.

Giggity! <img src="http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-dance011.gif" alt="Smiley" border="0" />

Did a little detecting the back yard today in between rain sprinkles. Chores? Meh. LoL.

Hit this 1/4 acre land pretty good with the f2 previously so not much to be found. Came across a loud signal 10" down and it was a really old die cast toy, looks like a yellow tractor of sorts, detail says to me 1960's. Haven't cleaned it up yet. Also nailed a 2" deep wine cooler top I missed b4.

So....seems everything is in order.

Thanks for your help Mudpuppy.

Your price for this service is to of course post pictures and detailed write-ups of what you find! I had to replace a busted torsion spring on the garage door today, I took the day off to go hunting but that garage door wasn't gonna fix itself, I rushed this simple but dangerous task, got everything all cadywampuss, crossthreaded and dogtracked to the point I had to start all over, knocked the track off the wall, broke a drill bit and a screwdriver, busted my knuckles, etc...so you got off easy! Lets all go out and find some silver or gold this weekend!

Ok. So. Proof to the old adage that a place is never "hunted out".

Which, makes me super happy because it justifies to me my reason for buying this machine which was to get more confident target acquisition and not leave behind -8" targets the f2 either never hit or came back as iffy/weak.

Found 4 dimes and a few pennies the f2 missed out in the front and side yard. And believe me I hit this yard hard with the f2, every which way, twice or thrice !

I'll post some pics tonight of the stuff my f2 missed.

Can't wait to go back over some of the places I already hit silver on. One place was 2 silvers within a 100sqft area.
