Mainly looking for metal detector for: 1.) Relics, 2.) Coins, 3.) a little water (Michigan area). What would be folks recommendations for these two? Do I really need Boost mode if using in Woods and stubble?
I say yes to Boost, that will get you about the same depth on coins as the F5, so I don't see it as a boost processor. The DE processor will give about an inch less depth, then the FA processor will take off about another inch.
I hunt primarily in boost. The difference in signal strenth is pretty amazing. I feel I'd miss some targets if I wasn't using boost. Especially for relics where you are hunting in grass taller than mowed yards or sport fields.
The current F75 gold with all the latest upgrades (minus boost & cache), at about $500, is an exceptional value!
In comparison of a current F75 gold with a non DST F75 Ltd, there was a minimal depth gain. From a strict cost/benefit perspective, I don't think the minimal depth gain is worth twice the price at current pricing. JMHO

So with boost on F75 it will almost go as deep as an F5? I didn't know the F5 is a deeper machine,in the south east depth is very important so I'm listening.

I was thinking the same thing,I have a f75ltd2 and a new gold f75.. I was considering selling or trading the f75 gold for a f5,,I like the things I hear about it..Is the f5 better and deeper n coins than the f75ltd2 or is that a typo?
No typo on my part, I had both the F75Ltd upgraded with the DST, and I had a F5 with the 11"DD coil and 10" concentric coil. Now with the F5 and the 10" concentric I didn't have the depth that I was getting with the 11"DD.
So if I put the 11" DD on both the machines the only way I could get near the same depth as the F5 was to run the F75 in boost. The F5 was still on the deeper side of the 2 machines by about an inch.
Now I bought the F5 used and the F75 was new and my brother was in need of good machine so I sold him the F5 for what I had in it. Now we hunt together most of the time and he gets the most silver coins. Also I have tried hunting behind him and he doesn't leave a lot for me and the F75 to find.
If I run my F75 in the DE processor I am about 2.5" less depth than the F5.
I have had 4 F75's, 2 std and 2 limited and I have been using them since 2010.
If I was in the market for a new machine I would go for a F5, F75Ltd, or a F70. The F70 has the SL processor which is pretty close or the same as the boost on the F75 and the mighty F5.
Just my take and the machines I know a little about.
Ron, I have the F5 and never owned or tried the 13 kHz T2,F70 or F75 but it's the first time I hear that the F5 is deeper on coins. Could that be only for silver coins ? In discrimination mode or all metal ? Thanks.

This is the first time I recall seeing or hearing that the F 5 is deeper then any of the F 75 versions. Anything's possible I guess, but it does surprise me to see the statement. Maybe Mike will chime in. He has, or has had, both. HH jim tn

I am talking about disc mode, I have tried AM but kind let that go because the meter would not keep up with audio. Of course the results are a little different for clad than silver, but I am getting inch better on the F5 over the F75Ltd in boost and both using the 11"DD coil.
The only way I can get the F75 to top the F5 is run in CL mode but the recovery speed is so slow my targets could be any were in a swing. Still looking at the CL processor for coin hunting.
Here are the settings on my F5 that I got the best depth. My brother still uses these settings. Maybe he will join later. Still look 52 is his forum name.
Threshold = - 1
Gain = 70
My f5 does go deep, like Ron was saying it doesn't let much silver get away. I've learned a lot in the last two years since I started using the f5 plus it's my only detector so I gotten use to the language. When we're hunting a lot of times we'll check out each other's targets before we dig and compare readings, his f75 is better on discing out bottle caps for sure but I feel the f5 hangs right in there everywhere else.
That's very interesting about the F 5. I know it's a good detector and perhaps doesn't get the notoriety it deserves? I had just never heard that it was a deep seeking detector. Hmmmm! HH jim tn

I am not knocking the F75, if you noticed I am still running mine and I am pretty happy with it. But I can't say that I am happy with the DE processor, I kind of thought it would be better than the F5 and then I started checking and I think when they come up with really fast recovery speed in the DE processor they lost depth to get that. If I had to guess the recovery speed of the F5 and the F75 in BP is close to the same.
Now this is just my findings and my thoughts and I am keeping my F75Ltd, but I will do most of my hunting in boost. Lots of choices with the F75Ltd.
Quite honestly, I've never felt my F 75 LTD and F 75 LTD2 DST in de mode were as deep as my first F 75 Camo edition regular F 75 in de mode. There does seem to be a tad more depth in bp verses de, but bp does really help when hunting over tall grass, stubble and low woods foliage.HH jim tn
