New Fisher F5 Guy

Dziak

New member
Hello All,

Name's Tom from VA. Spent some time through the years "Dirt Fishing" (love the term by the way) with my old Compass Nugget I bought in the early '70's. The machine's bullet-proof, fully functional and hanging in the garage. All metal, all the time. Used my eyes to "discriminate" once digging the item up. I bet technology changed things a wee bit, so ordered and just received a Fisher F5. I bought new, the price was fair and within my range, and the reviews were generally positive based on extensive Internet research, to include this wonderful forum. Spent the early evening in the yard understanding "ground phasing" and using some of the F5's controls. Found a couple of quarters, dimes, and pennies the old Compass missed, I should probably say, "I missed."

Here's a question for the quorum, forgive me if it's been asked, my search results produced nothing.

I've read here the F5 screen is subject to easy scratching. Do you think it would be a good idea to cover the screen with a cell phone screen protector? Is it possible I may damage the screen when removing the cell phone screen protector when a change is warranted?

I welcome all thoughts and criticism. Looking forward to learning from the group.

Regards,

Tom

Hi Tom and welcome to the forum. I have both the F5 and F75LTD and I used the cell phone screen protectors on both detectors. I've not had any problems removing them. Hope this helps, Good Luck and Happy Hunting.

Tom welcome to the forum,

You made a wise choice on buying the F5, as for screen protection, the cell phone screen protectors are a good idea or just be careful which is what I do. Most of the damage to the screens that I have noticed is from cleaning, I have seen guys get something on the screen and just take their thumb or shirt tell and wipe it off. It is that micro grit that settles on the screen that is the killer. Wait until you get home and treat it like a good pair of eye glasses or a camera lens.

Mine has a small dimple in it from ?. So it is open to easy damage if not careful. My screen is highly reflective (of light) as well.

The lightly frosted cell covers are ideal.
