Hi.. getting ready to jump into the hobby. Think I have found the detector I will buy. Bounty Hunter Pioneer 202 Metal Detector with 8" Interchangeable, Waterproof Search Coil
I have a credit from the vendor so this will cost me $70. It got good reviews and I think it will be a good start. Living close to the ocean, the majority of my searching would be at the beach

That detector should work in the dry sand OK, but will have problems in the wet sand and water. Salt water is conductive and single frequency machines have trouble dealing with it. Welcome to the hobby. Do some research and talk to the sponsors on the phone. They can help you decide on equipment.
