Just thought I would top in and say "Hello". Found this site and just joined.

Looking at getting myself a MD, but am not sure which to go for. How are the Ace 250s? I will be using it for gold hunting while panning.

Any comments or advice will be accepted.

Welcome to the forum.
The ACE is a good basic detector which can do what other high end machine will do.
Gold nuggets have been found with this ACE 250 in the past.
The Scorpion by Garrett is more the Gold finder .

A big welcome!

I love prospecting too. The Ace is a great detector for what it was intended for. If you are serious about prospecting, you need to get a more specialized detector. One that has a good ground balancing system and can read the black sand. Other features also help, like having a higher frequency.

Thank you, guys.
I am serious about prospecting.
Coin hunting would be a fun hobby.

Although gold has been found with the 250 it is not a gold machine per se. One needs a regular gold detector to hunt for gold and nuggetshoot. You might check out the Garrett Scorpion. It's not only a gold machine with the proper frequency but also a coin and relic hunter. The 250 just isn't set up for the hot ground and black sand that gold is generally found in.

Welcome to the forum! This is a wonderful community and a great place to share info. Feel free to ask for advice at any time. I agree. The Garrett Scorpion Gold Stinger is definitely the best gold detector for the price. It's also a very good coin detector as well.

Here are some links to info on the Scorpion.

Best of luck to you whichever detector you choose. Happy Hunting!:)

Well I may as well jump in too. I just joined the forum and thought I would say hello. I do have a 250 but hunt relics and coins. I love the machine, the ground balance can get a bit overwhelmed sometimes and I am not even in black sand areas. All the comments about the 250 being great for coin shooting is right on. Just pulled out a large cent 6" down and a 1 reale that was so thin and worn I had to ID it under strong magnification. Hope to learn my way around the forum a little better and chat more. But I better just watch for awhile and see how this computer chat stuff works.

Hey don't be shy, we won't bite. Just jump right in and rattle away. Some pics of your finds would be nice. We like relics or anything that comes out of the ground.
