New to detecting.

Hey fellow metal detectives. I have had my 705 for over a month now and it is working great. Thank you to digger for the ebook( saved to pics on iPhone) and the video on you tube. Very very useful info. I have collected my share of clad and nails so far. Found a cool throwing knife the other day. so I think I am getting the hang of it on coin mode.

On to the prospecting mode. I am working areas with the stock gold package coil. These area are highly mineralized creek beds, that are very wet.

I was wondering what people were setting uP in these conditions and getting results?

Btw I have read this forum all 190sumthing pages a coulple times now and don't hear from the nugget shooters

Thank you and thanks again to digger.

Badbaja, I was on a long road trip last week to your hood. Went to the fort and sure wanted to bring out the 705 around the parade grounds. I was a dummy and asked for permission. The guy working there said it was a bust for even having it in my car while at the fort. I went to Grants Pass after that and tried my hand in the prospector mode out on the Rouge. Either there was gold every square inch or I am clueless how to run this thing properly in the prospector mode. I promise it is the latter. I have tried to find anyone on the west coast to do some hands on training with the 705 in the prospector mode. Appears there is no one willing or able. I find it odd also no nugget finds are getting posted. I hope to be the first. Until then I will continue to dig nails and fishing weights along with a few thousand more bottle caps.

one reason I got my 705 was to nugget hunt. Right now in Yuma Az lot of places to nugget hunt. But to hot 110 degrees

It's never to hot to nugget shoot, lol.

I think I got mine dialed in pretty well on Sunday. I went up to copper creek but think I was hitting it higher than the old mines so not much. I did however find a piece of lead(possible old bullet)about 5-6 inches down. So i pretty confident it was set ok. It's all in the tones. The hotrocks will set it off but I noticed I have to slow down a bit. I was going off Diggers you tube video but got confused on the auto track towards the end. I was not sure to which button to turn hit towards the end of the video. The detector makes a lot of noise so I just had to listen for the consistent tones, then dig those. I only had one consistent tone on the lead and dug it up.

STAY AWAY FROM FORT VANCOUVER. No joke in the month and a half doing this I have heard of 4 stories of metal detectors being confiscated from people and BIG fines. The good news is FORT Vancouver is not military any longer as of this last summer they cleared out. Bad news is the archeologist(grave robbers)at wsu think they own that area cause they pretty much do. They are the only ones that are allowed to dig there. The good news is the grave robbers will have a curse that will follow them the rest of their lives. Lol. Besides they have been digging at the fort for over 50 years( that i read about) with micro mesh classifiers, holes the size of Andre the giant grave have been dug out there, so it's all been picked over very thourghly. Last year they found a pet grave yard and dug that all up? What gives. As far as I know the Fort park area is the only area off limits in this area besides private property.

But there is a lot of other hotspots to hit and I have been doing a lot more research than detecting. Just honing my skills at the parks and schools.

Please feel free to hit me up if you head this way again and we could show each other some tips.

Thanks, will do. I was amazed to see the workers in the lab at the fort marking and logging a pile of square nails. I could keep them employed for a year with all the ones I found in Trinity county on my first try to nugget hunt with the 705

I am going back up in next couple weeks. I think I know for sure where one of the abandoned miners village is. If not I know now for sure where a couple of the veins were and want to drop down lower than those and check the old tailing piles. I heard there is active claims up there as of last year but never seen any claim signs. Some of the villages have not been occupied since 1920s. I want to look for buried cache around the villages and mines. Send me a email and I will send you a link to the forum where they discuss the mines. One is over 3000 ft deep. I also have a small old wood sluice I made that moves a lot of material if 2 people are working it, lol

Before my arm rest fell off, I was at the beach the other day, figuring it is pretty unrealized, I buried 2 nuggets in small plastic bags and was amazed at how deep I could detect them with my 705 with the elliptical coil, one was a 1/2 a gram and the other maybe a couple of grains, it got my hope up, I hope to hit the desert this year and just hunt for nuggets and rocks from space. I would also like to hear from anyone who has or is using this detector in prospector mode, I bought mine to be able to hunt for everything.

What mode were you in to find the nuggies?
What is your procedure to set up in the mode you were in?
Wet sand or dry?

I was in the damp sand, set the detector in the prospector mode and did the auto ground balance, and walked into the dry sand where I buried the nuggets, I just wanted to check it out to see what it would do with the nuggets, it screamed Zip Zip on both.
