I just gought one today and heard some disturbing news.
is it true that i have to have this unit modified inorder to avoid falsing for use in california?
rgds, JT

Never heard of it.
All detector's can be made to false, and the more sensitive they are, the more this can happen. The HH PI is a very sensitive units, but one does not need to run around at full throtte. You don't use any other high performance detector this way, neither would anyone use the HH PI like this.
If you can run a full power, great, but there will be cases where you will have to turn it down a bit. This will depend on where you are.

I just bought one and getting advice that there may be something with CA beaches that may give me problems.
So I just tone it down you say. Whew. Can't wait to get mine.

I think you will find it will do just OK.
Sweep slow, and keep you coil flat as you sweep. Try not to make wide sweeps. It's easy to do this, but it doesn't lend it's self to being problem free by sweeping wide.
The unit is easy to learn. Tip: test & play with the batterys that it came with. When your ready to go detecting, replace the batterys with top shelf akaline cells.
Have fun

No Problem with the wader unit which is basically the same as the diver. THese units work terrific. Just back off the sens to 9 or 10 with no loss of depth i might ad. Infact I just found a 24k bracelet using my wader. So far I've found 11 pieces of jewery in about a week. 5 gold. THis detector rocks big time!
