New look for the CS-6

I've noticed a recent interest on the forum on the CS-6, I've learned allot from following these post. Turns out before this recent activity started on the CS-6 I had bought one from Don and it just arrived last night, The unit had gone through a fire of some sort damaging the housing and outer battery pack as well as the stock coil to a minor degree. Luckily the circuit board is still in excellent operating condition. I was very lucky Don tossed in a 11' beachscan coil with the package.
With the help of Reg, Don completed a couple of mods to get the unit down below 15uS, From what I've learned last night and this evening the unit seems to be operating near 14uS. Get's great depth too.
From studying one of the mods I repeated what Don had done to get the unit below stock 17uS only used a different resistor "10K on the R5" but the unit failed and stayed at 14uS. Seems this is the best the CS-6 can do. One feature I did add on was a DD mod to easily operate my 10uS DD coil which was made by Reg for my GQ, This DD coil will quickly smooth out the unit to perform with better stability when the ground conditions get bad.
I've enclosed a pic of the unit, The circuit board is now inside a shortened Sovereign housing and is using the Sovereign battery pack. Over all this CS-6 is one hot pi, It matches my HH Pi on depth and comes close to my GQ. Still, Hands down my GQ is the TRUE LEADER of capturing the smaller conductors.
Almost forgot, This circuit board is now set-up to operate off the 11"DD coil, 11" beachscan coil and a mini probe all using the same special type connector. When used as a hip-mount coin-probe with the attached probe it'll detect a nickel at 6" inches in the ground while using the larger 11" coils it'll detect 11" to 12" inches in depth.

Hi Paul,
Very nice job on the mods!! Im looking to buy a PI do you have any for sale? Maybe the Cs-6?
Did you get my E:mail I sent you?
Great Job!!!
HH God Bless,
Matt (SD,CA)

Thank you Matt,
With tax day next week, I may let one pi go.
Thanks again, Paul (Ca)

Looks good Paul! I'm glad it worked out for you, you did good job! HH.....Don

Went to a larger Minelab housing, The shorten housing was a litle too tight so went with a housing Seeker have gave me.
Pictured are the three coils this CS-6 can now operate with making this Pi an all-purpose detector.
Thanks for the great deal you gave me, I'll treat her with care

Poul,
You can go lower than 10K on R5-6,Measure total restance of R5. then lower it one ohm at a time until you max it out, back up 2 ohms.
You might also won-to make 555 timer a 50-50 unite.
DD coil installed on CS, Was circuit board cut or modified to make it work.
Frank.

Paul,
I have got my CS-6 to 7.6 usec ( 11" DD) with the help of Reg.I can detect flat gold nugget of .0995 grams at 3". It is very quiet. Also the added ground balance circuit which Reg develop works pretty good in the red soil around central areas of the Sierra Nevada Mts. in California. Minelab cannot not do that. I go hunting with a friend that uses his SD2200 and most of the time I find what he passes over. I guess it depends on what you are looking for for the amount of sensitivity one would want.

Hello Frank,
I cut the circuit myself for the DD mod, Then modifed the coil connectors "used hidden jumpers" so the CS-6 will accept both mono and DD coil. This I learned from Scott and Reg from a past mod they did and Mr. Bill showed me the area to cut on another type of circuit board before. If it's one of Eric's Pi's they are all about the same area to cut and solder in that third wire from the DD. It's a very easy mod.
Currently the CS-6 is operating well in fact too well, If I do drop her down to operate less that 14uS then the unit will not operate properly with the mini probe or the 11" Beach scan coil which are made to operate at 15uS. Already I sense the unit not as stable "boarder line" as it should with the 11" beachscan coil because the circuit board is running faster the beachscan coil or probe coil are designed too. Unless I bump up the delay and then I'm back were I started at 15uS.
Currenty the DD coil can operate with this faster pulse of 14uS and is fine with me so the unit can still handle the other coils.
Thank you for your tips on the CS-6, I understand how many of you are so busy and is why I don't contact Bill, Eric, Reg or some of the others for help. These guys aready have a plate full I wouldn't want to add more on top of what they have.
Thanks again, Paul (Ca)

Hello Rick,
It still amazes me to see other circuit designs to help pi's That's a first for me with your "Ground Balance Circuit" for the CS-6. Sounds like you have a winner.
My CS-6 is getting a small nugget at 3" to 4" inches which impressed me, And that's at 14uS.
Since I'm more of a beach hunter this will be more than enough for my beach hunting needs, Anything smaller then my GQ will fill that void
Hopefuly we can hokup in the future since you live in california, I would like to get a close up look on that ground balance circuit you have on the CS-6.
HH, Paul (Ca)

Dear Sir Nice job. I am interested in moding some units and building some homebrews. Where can I buy housing/units I can install them in? Thank You. Irvin
