I Just received my new Whites M6 in yesterday. I always prep and air test new units before using them. I also picked up the SEF 8x6 butterfly DD coil and a Whites 4x6 DD shooter coil to go along with the stock concentric. 950 coil. I love the way the 8x6 SEF coil performed on my Whites MXT so it should do just fine on the M6.
I take the time to wrap the coil wire with protection loom material. Cover the rods and control box with a layer of industrial grade black tape to protect finish. I also wrapped the grip with bicycle cork tape to protect, pad and thicken the grip a little. Some will think and even chime in and say it's a detector just use it or that's being way to picky and that's ok. I have done this to every detector I have owned and if and when I sell or trade the detector I just remove the protection materials and the detector looks almost brand new. This does increase the value and maintains the looks of the detector in the long run. I also store my detectors in padded storage bags after taking the time to blow them of with air and wipe them down with a lightly dampened soft cloth.
Now it's time to take the M6 out and get a little dirt on it and see what she can find....

having a little late night fun. I've owned and used them, but they aren't for me and my sites. Like you, I try to keep my detectors pampered and cleaned up after use, but I will admit I don't make a fashion statement out of them, I just pamper them as I go. The best protection I see is wrapping the coil cable to help protect it from any puncture in thorny, brushy environments. My White's coils are a bit thicker and more durable, and I note the better protection of the SEF coil, too. Some of the detector makers out there sure have some thinly wrapped, flimsy feeling thin coil cables that seem to fail more easily.
