BRICE,I'M A NEW MEMBER,THANKS FOR ALLOWING ME IN YOUR FORUM.I HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SUN RAY X1 PROBE, I SEE YOU MUST LIKE THEM BECAUSE I CAN SEE YOU HAVE AT LEAST 3 OF THEM .I HAVE A GARRETT PIN POINTER AND A WHITES WHICH I LIKE BOTH OF THEM. THE PROBLEM THAT I HAVE IS SOME TIMES THE GARRETT WILL BE LOUD ON A SIGNAL AND YOU CANT TELL IF TARGET IS IN THE BOTTOM OF HOLE OR THE SIDE. WHEN YOU GET CLOSE TO TARGET YOU CAN PIN POINT IT BETTER WITH THE WHITES, WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS DOES IT DO MUCH BETTER AND WHERE ON THE PROBE DOES IT PICK UP, ALSO IF I ONLY BOUGHT 1 IS IT INTERCHANGABLE WITH THE ETRAC AND EXPLORER SE ? SHOULD I GET 2 TOP BRACKETS, SEE MY PROBLEM IS I HAVE A ETRAC AND AN EXPLORER AND A F75 LTD ORDERED. I'M CONSIDERING GETTING 1 SUN RAY X1 PROBE TO TRY,AND CAN"T DECIDE WHAT TO PUT IT ON.

Im not Bryce... but, ive always got a comment LOL. The garrett is an excellent hand held with great depth. Some of the hand helds give annoying feed back because of Pulse induction EMI and you have to move the detector out of the way. Thats not so with the X1, you flip a switch and you go from the main coil to the probe that gives you all the information your larger one does including tones. Thats a huge advantage since there can be more than one target in a hole. You dont loose them or have to find a place to put them. Cant say you will gain depth over your garrett you do get about 3 inchs with both. You can also use pinpoint with the X1 which means the VCO will narrow the pointer. Since the X1 may react the same as your garrett in a hole the ability to pinpoint and VCO takes care of NOT being able to easily locate the target. Yes the X1 will work on both the Etrac and explorer. The pointer does hit targets slightly up the shaft of the probe, which if you are using high sensitivity can make it a little more difficult to locate the target. As far as those top brackets, im not sure because your switch box is attached to your lower shaft it doesnt come off. If the two shafts are interchangeable then the brackets can be attached to the shaft and the whole thing can be swapped. What no Vision?? haha. Looks like you have your bases covered with all those detectors.

I REALLY LIKE THE HAND HELDS BUT I HAVE LOST THEM BEFORE, AND FORGOT THEM ALSO ..PLUS MY GARRETT IS ACTING UP , THE LAST COUPLE TIMES USING IT , IT DID NOT WANT TO WORK.DO YOU HAVE THE X1 AND DO YOU LIKE IT?

I do have it on my SE and have tried several hand helds. Worth every dime of the extra cost. Most, and i say most, HH's drive me nuts with the feed back. I recently had to have mine repaired and had to go to my back up HH. What a miserable time i had finding the target or even telling there was a target in the hole. Id be shocked to hear from anyone that uses a sunray that they are unsatisfied with its performance. Would i buy another one??? Heck ya. Ralph a great guy to deal with if you have a problem as well.

I'd say go for the X-1 on the Explorer and E-Trac. If you mount it on the shaft, as opposed to up near the arm cup, then you can just swap the whole upper/lower shafts between the two as one unit. Although if you're going to have that many detectors, I personally don't see a problem having three of them.... 
and he was right. I'm new here too and started out using his SE. The X1 probe is a must have in my opinion. He has his probes mounted on the upper shaft on his etrac, se, and explorer 2.

X1 is a must. However, it is powerful enough that it may pick up the target even though the target may more than an inch a way. I find that if I use the X1 to get the general location, and then use a small hand held pinpointer (I use a Merlin, which may be out of production), I can get real close to the target and reduce the chance of scratching it. This becomes more important when using a large coil (WOT) or for a deep target.
Another nice thing about the X1: if you start digging, and get no signal with the X1 at your detecting sensitivity, you can crank up the sensitivity and find that elusive deep target deep in the hole.

X-1 is a must, but it can be very frustrating to really pinpoint a target that's right there in the hole or pile of dirt since it picks up from the side - this tends to drive me crazy. You can switch to pinpoint mode on the Explorer, but reaching over is a bit of a pain. I carry a Vibra-Probe on my belt to to realy zero in on a target fast. Whip it out with my left hand and point it up to turn it on 
It's a great pinpointer - surprised so few carry them. No switches and auto-off and only has an effective range of about 1" straight off the tip. Makes it real easy to pull a dirty target out of a pile of dirt or to tell u that u've dug down deep enough and the target is right there. I use the X-1 to find the general direction of the target in the hole so as not to scratch it with my Lesche, then zero right in with my Vibra-Probe. Quick and terribly accurate.....for me saving time from fumbling around in the dirt is the name of the game!

Without a doubt the Sunray is the best on the planet but add some weight and bulk to your unit. On the other hand many use handheld varieties which vary in price and ability to do the job.
Might bring it up at a club meeting, planted hunt(lunchtime) or even viist a multiline dealer but in any case would advise you to purchase one no matter how well you can pinpoint as they are a timesaver and keeps the digging down which helps keep our hunting area neat for the next time.
