Hello, fellow md'ers.

Moved to North Brevard county FL last October. I have read numerous conflicting reports about where detecting is allowed. Want to head south to Melbourne Beach area.
What is the latest regs for that area?

Welcome from Maryland..:clapping:

I did read on a blog that in some country's people are shot on the spot if found with a detector sure that wont happen where you are :buds:

so yeah just go

You need to be a little more specific. There are various layers of public land . Eg.: city, county, state, federal. And even within each of those, is various types sub-entities. So you'd have to give a specific type, to get an answer.

But in short: FL beaches are all fair game on the inter-tidal zones. I hear state LAND parks in FL are supposedly a no-go. But that has no bearing on city or county parks though. If you are skittish, you can check their websites for park and muni codes/laws. If you see nothing that says "no md'ing", then presto: Not prohibited.

As for the "conflicting reports" you've heard (some people saying not-allowed): Just be aware that some people see something about "dig" or "alter" or "deface" or "harvest/remove", etc... and think 'aha, that means no md'ing". Or perhaps someone ran into a gardener having a bad-hair-day who told them "scram". Or asked a bored desk clerk and got a "safe" answer (that exists no-where in print). The md'r dutifully reports it on a forum. That gets picked up in links to links. And pretty soon is a rumor that can never be put to rest. When in reality was nothing but an isolated fluke. Thus I do not put much stock into reading on a forum that "such & such place is off-limits", unless I saw for myself in print in actual law (not someone's commentary on what they think the law means, but rather: actual chapter and verse).

Just avoid obvious historic sensitive monuments, and I bet you'll be just fine wherever .
