Hello All!
My name is Dave Bennett and I live in Florida near Kennedy Space Center where I used to work and hope to return to soon so they can lay me off again when the Shuttle Program flies out. I have been swinging an old Garrett S-1 since my dad bought it new in 83 or 84, I was about 28 at the time and used it a lot till I got too busy to go out in the woods. Well now I have plenty of time till the next job comes along. So I dug out the old S-1 to find some parts of my Ryobi Brush Cutter that has fallen off while I was cutting some pepper trees. It took about 5 minutes to find the parts, even the tiny lock washer, the S-1 pointed it out and the neodymium magnet snapped them right up, back in business. That little exercise got me going so I went to the Garrett website to see what MD's could do now after 25 years. Wow! It lead me to this forum and all you generous and helpful folks, I am hooked, again, my Ace 250 will be here tomorrow and we will be out in the woods at an old home site I know near the railroad tracks. I have been out back swinging the S-1 and clearing out the junk in the ground, attached is a picture of what I found today, I am fifty one cents closer to paying for my new detector! That plus the major find of another car in my backyard, a nice Gold Trans Am. I wonder what I will find tomorrow with the Ace that the S-1 (or I) missed. Cant wait to hear your latest adventures and finds, it is very entertaining and interesting. Keep 'em swingin'!

Good post (and photos) and welcome to the forum. There have been a lot of new Ace 250 users joining us lately. Tons of great information posted recently. Look for the Ace 250 how to pinpoint video which is a must view. Do not attempt to pinpoint like the manual and dvd direct or you'll be digging swimming pool sized holes when you start.

My Dad lived in Titusville near the American Legion before he passed. I never brought my detector down there with me when visiting. What a dope I am.

Tighten up the cord on your S-1 a little. Looks loose in you photo.

Chris

Great finds, I know you will be very happy with your new Ace 250!!!

Welcome aboard. Nice little haul. Things will pick up when the 250 arrives. You'll have a lot of fun with the little Yeller Feller. Start out with your sensitivity set at no more than four bars, then depending on your ground conditions you can work your way up. Keep us posted on your finds. Good luck.

Bill

Welcome - Cool photos, Keep us posted on your 250 finds. HH

Howdy. I've never used an S-1, so couldn't really compare,
but I know the 250 is a bang up machine for the money.
So I bet you do pretty well. I bet 65% of the people hanging out
here are running 250's. :clapping:
I think what you will probably notice most is the more advanced
discrimination with the newer models, vs the old.
With most older boxes, using discrimination reduced depth in
many cases.
But with the more advanced "audio notch" layout of the 250,
using discrimination does not reduce depth at all. The machine
is IDing all metal all the time. The notches just kill the audio for any
particular notch, but you can still see it on the display.
It's pretty much a whole different animal vs the older machines.
But those old ones can still get the goodies if the user is familiar
with it. :geek:

That's one old detector you have in the pic. It sounds like you are well rehearsed with metal detecting. I'm looking forward to seeing for finds and stories. If you have any questions....just fire away. :)
