New Nokta Detectors for Beach Hunters?

Sand Sifter

Well-known member
You Nokta guys might already know about this, I don't swing a Nokta, so this is new to me. I decided to check Nokta’s website, to see if they made other PI's, wanted to see if they had lower priced PI's that would have established a PI track record before coming out with the mega buck Magnetar. But the only other PI I saw was the PulseDive Scuba, small handheld.

I came across 2 other Gold Detectors; Gold Finder 2000 and Gold Kruzer. These 2 aren't PI's, they're VLF's operating in single frequency (61kHz). The Gold Kruzer is fully waterproof to 16ft, but Gold Finder 2000, while it has waterproof coils, only lists that it's "rainproof".

So, while I was checking out the Gold Kruzer model, I stumbled across something very interesting. On the Gold Kruzer’s brochure, there are 3 detectors in the Kruzer series, so in addition to the Gold Kruzer, there are 2 other detectors and here’s what Nokta says: GET READY FOR A WHOLE NEW METAL DETECTING EXPERIENCE WITH THE NEW KRUZER SERIES!

OK, they have the Gold Kruzer for the nugget busters, but what are the other 2 detectors for? As I was looking over the Gold Kruzer’s brochure I saw this:

Are you a beach hunter? We did not forget about you, either! The Kruzer features a new advanced beach mode that provides a very stable performance on the wet salt beach and even underwater.

So, it looks like they came out with 2 additional detectors in the Kruzer series designed for beach hunters, the Kruzer and Multi Kruzer. Both are fully submersible to 16.4 feet, and have 8 additional coils that can be used, 6 of them are open coil designs.

The Kruzer looks to be SF at 14kHz, and the Multi Kruzer might possibly be SMF, 5kHz/14kHz/19kHz. Can’t tell if it’s SMF or SF like the X-Terra Pro and only allows 1 frequency at a time. They don't say if Multi Kruzer is SMF or SF with selectable frequencies, so I'm not sure. I checked the Gold Kruzer’s Manual, but it only covered the gold model.

The crazy thing, at least for now, is that the Kruzer & Multi Kruzer isn’t listed on their detector's web page, and there’s no separate brochure or manuals for these 2 beach hunting detectors. I only happened to stumble across them when looking at the Gold Kruzer brochure. So, ya gotta search the gold detectors to find the VLF beach detectors, lol. Maybe this series is so new, that they just haven’t yet listed these 2 other detectors on their website?

Again, I’m not a Nokta guy, so I don’t know if this series is brand new, or if they’ve been around for a while. But if the Kruzer series are indeed brand-new detectors, that tells me that Nokta has been hearing from beach hunters and is at least working to come out with new detectors specifically targeted for the beach.

But what about a new PI for beach hunters?

IMHO, I’m not an Engineer so I don’t know what the difficulty level might be, but I don’t think Nokta would need to reinvent the wheel to give beach hunters a nice waterproof PI at an affordable price. They could use the overall design of the Kruzer series (control box, shaft, waterproof, open coils), then redesign/simplify the Magnetar’s PI circuitry specifically for beach hunting. That would give beach hunters a new waterproof PI, affordable please, along with the VLF Kruzer series. They have waterproof detector designs and now have PI circuit technology, all they need is to simplify the Magnetar’s PI circuitry, combine with the waterproof design of the Kruzer series, and they’d have a waterproof PI with open coils that many Beach Hunters have been screaming for.

The reason you didn't find the Multi Kruzer being advertised on their website is that it is discontinued, the same with the Kruzer, I'm guessing they didn't sell enough of them to keep making them, that being said it seems you maybe able to find them from some dealers that may have one in stock.

Just an FYI these detectors were released in 2018 and did have a following, the Gold Kruzer is the only one still being made and actively being sold.

Thanks! I'm not a Nokta guy so don't know much about them. Wonder why the Kruzer & Multi Kruzer didn't sell? Maybe either price of that they're SF and guys were looking for SMF's?

Nokta released their simultaneous multi frequency/ selectable single frequency Legend VLF in early 2022 which could do everything that the single frequency Kruzer, selectable single frequency Multi Kruzer and even the gold prospecting specific Gold Kruzer could do and a lot more. The only reason the Gold Kruzer is still around as old stock is as a place holder for Nokta’s soon to be released SMF gold prospecting specific VLF Goldex +.

Nokta is making a public announcement about the Magnetar at 12 noon ET on June 25th. I have no idea what that is all about but I hope it’s a price drop or word of a much lower priced model coming soon.

I hope a beach / water oriented model ... and at a lower price point than the top of the line professional gold field model of the first release.
Edited to add: If it is more immune to interference than the Fisher impulse AQ at a similar price point, I'm very interested!

I guess what really shocked me about the Magnetar is the mega bucks they're asking right out of the gate. Other than the handheld PI for divers, I don't recall that they've made any other PI's. I would have expected them to dip their toes in the PI waters by coming out with a moderate priced PI first, get it out to the market, let hunters test, build up a reputation and make sure their technology is proven. Then, release an improved or a bit higher end model, then another & another, so they can work their way up to the mega bucks Magnetar.

Minelab has Gold PI's in the same mega buck price range, but they also have a variety of already proven Gold PI's at more affordable price points, so they have an established reputation. Just seems that coming out with a high-end, mega buck priced PI as their first real PI would be expecting their customers to take a HUGE leap of faith that their PI technology is good. I'm sure it is, but if I was developing a new product using technology I haven't used before or am known for, I'd want to get it into as many hands as possible, get the buzz started and reputation built, before expecting customers to have to sell a kidney to buy my latest and greatest, lol.

Totally agree TVR and they wouldn't even have to reinvent the wheel, shouldn't need to invest a ton of time or $ into R&D. They can use the technology & components they already have. I believe the Magnetar is fully waterproof, and they make waterproof SMF detectors, so they already have experience making waterproof control boxes, coils, etc. They could take the Magnetar's PI circuitry, dumb it down, cut out any bells & whistles, make a simplified version tuned for the beach/saltwater environment, and add that simpler, more basic PI circuit into one of their waterproof control boxes, add some OPEN waterproof coils, and they'd have a waterproof PI for beach/shallow water hunters. Nokta has the technology, parts, components, knowledge, so they could take what they already have and repurpose/reconfigure to create a PI for our market. Some say the market for beach hunters is smaller in comparison to the Gold nugget buster market, and there's more profit potential in the Gold PI segment of the overall market. That might be, but really, how big is the market of people who can afford to spend $8-$9K on a detector? IMHO, that's a niche within a niche, within a niche.

You can spend $50K for a Ford F-150, or you can spend $100K for that same F-150, except higher priced models have more creature comforts, bells, whistles & digital doodads. But they're all basically the same truck, same engines, same guts & skeleton. It's all the add on's that drive the price up. I think Minelab did the same when they came out with the NOX 900. If you compare the specs of the NOX 900 against the NOX 700 & X-Terra Elite, they all share almost identical specs, except the NOX 700 has a few more expanded ranges than the X-Terra Elite, and the NOX 900 has even more expanded ranges than the NOX 700 or X-Terra Elite. But IMO, I think they're all basically the same detector. All Minelab had to do was to design the NOX 900 first, then by reprogramming the firmware to lower some ranges and/or remove a feature or two, they created the NOX 700. Then, reprogrammed the firmware again, lowered a few more ranges, maybe knocked out another feature or two, then they had the X-Terra Elite. I don't think they designed 3 separate detectors, I think they took the top model, NOX 900, made some changes and repurposed what they already had to create 2 additional, lower priced models.

I haven’t read any saltwater beach hunt reports for the Magnetar other than what Calabash Digger has posted.

The Magnetar 9000 is proven to be fully waterproof. In its price range, overall lighter weight and feature set it has zero competition currently from Minelab as far as being fully waterproof to 10 feet aside from the SDC2300 but that detector has buoyant coils too and is known to have battery compartment leaking issues.

Waterproofing a PI vs VLF is a whole different animal. PIs have much bigger batteries/battery housings than the most recent VLFs.

The Magnetar 9000 has already also proven itself as an outstanding nugget hunter on 0.1 gram and heavier/deeper gold nuggets.

No one should buy one for nugget hunting unless they are able to hunt in areas with known larger gold. Basically the Magnetar 9000 is a professional level gold prospecting detector for professionals with money sunk into gold nugget producing commercial claims.

There are more appropriate and less expensive options for weekend to a few times each year gold prospectors who hunt public lands or small non-commercial claims.

I had hoped the Magnetar 9000 would be priced between $3000 and $6000 US. It wasn’t so instead of complaining about it, I just moved on…..

Maybe there will be a cheaper beach/relic hunting version with open spoked coils, less sensitivity to micro targets and less ground handling choices besides basic hot ground and basic saltwater/black sand. Magnetar 3000/6000 instead of 9000.
