New Outlaw

Hell-o Tesoro fans. I thought I would put my findings on this new machine. My last detector was a Royal Sabre Plus and a Cutlass 2(non umax) so Ive been out of pocket for some time. The bug bit me again and I went with the Outlaw after about 3 Weeks of studying everything on the net. When it come in and I opened up the box I was taken by how small it was. My-- how the techs have been at work for the last 25 years. Big things come in small packages. This thing works very well. For me it has a steep learning curve but it all came together thanks to 2 calls to Tesoro and 1 to Kellco. I was new to GB, double D coils, ED120, Umax circuits and good depth with only 1-9 volt battery. So off to the front yard which was a auto repair yard in the 60's and a plumbers shop in the 50's. WORST place to hunt Best place to learn the HARD way. To cut it short, I love the 5.5 coil and the outlaw. I live on 20 acres and have to go out back to ground balance this thing but after getting it all right it found coins. They are all in the 70's but I couldn't find any with the Royal and the cutlass. I've tested this thing in as many ways as I can. I have allot to say about the good points and just a few, not so good. One is I haven't got use to the 2 function push button yet. I like the switch better cause I know what the machine is doing, the button to me is just a fast re-tune (all the way in). The other is I cant get use to the DD wide scan coil.I am sure I will be able to pin point with it in a better yard and some time. I need to get it away from all the trash here. I think I am ready to go to a school yard or park I'd really like to find a church yard where there is no beer or pop tops in the yard. I would like to say I am taken by the depth of this thing on coins, after I got it tuned up right---- and it uses only one 9v battery, that just blows me away. I dig with a bayonet which is 10 inches long and I dig copper tubing, and a couple of washers past that all the time. Only 1 coin at that depth so far. I know the silver is out there I just need to keep cleaning all the trash out of my yard. Like I said its a hard way to learn but I'm hunting close to home and having fun.

Welcome to the Forum R1200RT,

It sounds like the Outlaw is working out for you, that's great! I have the Bandito ll

Welcome aboard here! And if your user name is an accurate indication; nice bike!
Cheers,

Hi R1200RT,and welcome back! I enjoyed your report on the Outlaw and I am sure others did too.I bet you and the Outlaw will hit it off well, after "breaking in" in such an obstacle course. That small coil will really prepare you for those hard spots later on.Hey,I really enjoyed your comment about hunting close to home and having fun. That's what scratching is all about, and you still got it! HH, Charlie

T.G.I.F. to all on the forum. Thanx TVF for noticing the bike I'm very proud of it . I waited a long time for it but that's another story and forum. I would like to cover why I went with the outlaw after looking at all that is out there on the market. I looked hard a Whites and Mind Lab but my last 2 machines were Tesoro's some 20 + years ago. The battery holder of one was all dried out and fell apart in my hands. So I called Tesoro on the phone about 2 mo ago told them what I had and what I needed, and in 1 week it was in my mail box. I bought the Royal Saber plus in 1989 I think it was and they sent me the holder just on my word. I can't leave that kind of trust. I have a friend down the street that has a DI 6000 that wont tune and it is going in on his nickle. Anyway at the risk of sounding like a salesman I picked the Vaquero, Tejon, & Outlaw to consider. I really like everything about the Tejon except the ED 180 circuit. If it had the ED120 it would have been the pick of the litter. The Vaquero has a cult fallowing but it sounds like it would be a iron hound too. And I live among much Iron. I don't want to dig it up and look at it. All we have in north Texas is oil fields and they did drop silver coins mixed with steel washers at the ratio of 1152 to 1(I counted them). I really hope to dig in a Civil War local some day but it is all the way over there. The ED180 machine would be good there but for now I don't like the iron. So the Outlaw was my pick. After all coins and rings is all I hope to find here. The other good thing about the Outlaw is the coils will fit the Cutlass 2. I sold the Royal last week and kept the Cutlass to use with the 5.5 inch coil as a turn-on and go machine for trashy places starting with my front yard. There is allot to be said for the older machines, they work good, plain and simple. I still think I could find coins in my front yard faster with the Cutlass and the 5.5 coil then the Outlaw because to GB it I have to run out in the field next to us to find enough clean dirt to GB it. Its nice to have a turn-an-go machine. And in the front yard there is a under ground AC line to my house that makes my Outlaw pulsate but not the Cutlass. It must be to low noise circuit of the Outlaw that picks it up. But the point is the Cutlass without the noise runs better on that side of the lawn. OK that's enough -- Id say more but I'm a little key board shy. I hope to go to a near by school tomorrow and if I find something besides a washer Ill let you know here tomorrow. Good night.

Hi All Yall--- Well its Sunday I didn't make it out Saturday. But I had fun and learned a bunch today. The Outlaw is a really good coin machine. Ive tried all 3 coils in a normal yard without all the trash. The 5.75 inch coil is great for trashy places full of O.L.R.W (old lost rusty washers) like my yard. But it only has a swath of about 1/2 the coil width so to cover any ground you must creep. Cant cover much ground that way "Ante Nobody Got Time for That" (you tube funny there) anyway The 12 by 10 DD coil covers much more ground with each sweep (about 9 inches wide) but I still haven't got the hang of pin pointing with it yet. I sweep starting with the front of the coil over the object and moving forward until the sound stops at the back end of the coil. Where the sound stops that's where I dig. Its close but I'm a long time concentric coil user from way back. That brings me to the 8 inch donut coil. It sings, in depth in pinpointing, in coverage for its size, and weight. I found 11 coins today using it, no silver but 3 penny's in the 40s. So there is a coil for every plot of ground, but for me I really liked the 8 inch coil today. As for depth, 10 of the coins were 5 inches or less but 1 of the dimes was 6 inches deep I know cause my blade is 6.5 inches long. That's not long on a tape but when the ground is hard and you are dropping your knife into a hole that makes the blade go away, it pops my bubble when I pull out a dime in the 70s. I really had hopes of silver on that one (IF ITS NOT 64 OR BEFORE I GET SORE) But that's the way it goes. I don't care what machine you swing you really have to work to get silver now days. There was a detector club here years ago so most of the honey holes are worked hard by now. But with the deeper machines now days and better discriminators we can still go out and not get skunked. Its the next generation that's going to have a hard time finding booty were we have been--- RIGHT? They will probably have ground penetrating radar with holographic displays in color on their cell phone apps--and goes to 3 or 4 feet ! OK back to depth today. I had to leave 2 holes because I could not get to the item with my knife and it is 11.5 inches long tip to tip. I had a hole about 10 inches, I just cant dig any deeper without spending all day there digging in hard dry ground. It was a good sound and passed all the test but I couldn't get to it. O- well if its that deep it was probably made in China (HA HA). Maybe I need to look into a better tool to dig with. On a final note: I did learn to use the 2 function push button today. I still like the switch and use the button as a fast re-tune to threshold but it could be the "cats meow" to other people. Well I need to go now---- my typing and bog fear is setting in again, HA! Hope you enjoyed the notes on my first 2 weeks with a new OUTLAW.
