New Quattro question

I bought a Quattro a month ago and am having a problem understanding the threshold. I bought Andys book and read it cover to cover but nothing is said about it.
Im hunting a old homestead and my threshhold keeps nulling out constantly. Our ground here is red clay so Im not sure if its the ground
or something under the ground but if I dug every signal I wouldnt ever get anywhere. I get signals from all over the spectrum but when Im nulled out and then get a signal I cant figure out if its from where I am or where Ive been. Very frustrating!! Thanks for any replies :)

Oh God, the infamous red clay thing!!!! Sounds like I'm kidding you , but I'm not. Go back into the earlier posts here at the forum and there's a guy that seems to have had the same problem and a bunch of people responded to his plea with some ideas. I guess that ironized red clay can screw up even the finest detectors in the world. Do your self a favor and look back a ways and I think the guy we're talking about here was from Tenessee. He seemed to have the same problem and I think Mike from VA suggested to run in all metal mode, but I'm not sure about that. I wish you good luck and let us know what you find out. Let's face it, we're all in this thing together and if we can help each other out with tips and tricks, I'm all for it. I will say, I love my Quatro, I'd darn near put it up against any detctor and it'll go deep and accuratly. Do the research I suggested and, please let me/us know what you come up with.:) P.S. I do a lot of beach work with salt water and black mineralized soil and have VERY few problems with that, BUT... that Red Clay seems to maybe be another story. Good luck and keep in touch, Sincerely, Marc Trainor.

I've only had my Quattro for 3 weeks.......and yes I can find things but our soil around the house is red clay...like what they make bricks out of with lots of gravel stone mixed in. I am getting silver readings off of rocks and even with the SunRay probe attached, I still get nutty readings down in the hole.....some holes I think I went halfway to China. I am waiting for my book with hopes that it may help me. But in the meantime keep trying and maybe we can figure this out together.

:minelab: Today I went to a park and things seemed to be better..found a clad quarter in my 1st hole dug..dug 5 or 6 more
repeatale signals of 35-37 and nothing in them...they read just below the surface and pinpointed quickly. Also dug a empty strong 38 repeatable signal
I had a couple 14-15 nickle signals just below the surface...dug the hole and nothing there...I dont figure my pinpointing is off that much
but finally I got frustrated and went home.

Last weekend when the ground was really wet I was able to find stuff in every hole. Now that the ground is drying up......zippo. So many signals.........do not know what to dig only to find empty holes.

I can see where I am making many mistakes when I first start up. You need to get the book......the manual is not very good.

:minelab: That book has really helped me out alot...Today I went out and found my 1st wheat penny in a old mill house yard...I now know the house is over 50 yrs old...found some junk too tho and a quarter and a few more pennies :)
