New refurbished v3i only a v3 upgraded to a v3i

So I called white's and they have me a number for a dealer here in my town. I called him for a v3i and he said he refurbished v3i's, that ca.me with a warranty nd everything. Went top go pick it up and it was in a v3i box and looked fine. Got home got it out of the box and to my dismay.... it was a v3 with a little sticker. Next to the 3 saying it was upgraded to a v3i..my so what I got was a v3 refurbished And upgraded to the v3i. Does anyone else see the problem. With this? I mean. I wanted. And paid for. A refinished "real " v3i.... does any one agreewith me that for one that putting a v3 upgrade, in a v3i box is false advertising. The dealer said he. didnot know of course. He has assured me he would do his best to resolve the problem. I just think it is wrong of whites to put a referbed v3 with a software up grade in a v3i box. Can anyone tell me how much earlyer the v3 was released before the v3i came out. Thank-you.all and I will keep you posted on what happens.ohh ya I will be calling whites and talking with them Monday and see what they have to say

They are the same detector after the upgrade. Except for the silk screen on the box there is no difference. If you got a warranty you lost nothing. Just give it back to the dealer and get a refund if you are not happy.
Sounds like the problem is with the dealer not Whites or you misunderstood what he said. You said,"I called him for a v3i and he said he refurbished v3i's, that came with a warranty and everything." Dealers don't refurbish detectors unless they are a repair center.

I wasn't there so I don't know who said what. Whites will make it correct. I'm surprised you didn't look in the box before you bought it, I would have..

The dealer is also pissed off because whites told him that all five he revived were v3is that were refurbished not v3s with a software up grade. There is a difference.the age of the machine. Rite? The dealer said he would get me what I was told I was getting and am fully confident he will. I love whites and sold the detract I had just to buying a V3i not a V3. V3 : I know you will ask so what is the problem? I just don't think whites should put a v3 in a V3i box. They should package.them in a V3 box and clearly mark it has the upgrade.

Hi,

I agree with Rob....not sure exactly what happened but whites stand behind their products extremely well. As he said, there is no difference in the units, except for the sticker. As a matter, of fact, it might be better as I think the techs pay just a bit more attention to the units looked at for service, repair etc. They want to make SURE its right and done with.

Again as a dealer he should have checked what he is selling. As long as you get what you what all is well.

I am sorry I forgot the word had in a sentence. It should have said " he told me he had refurbished v3is". He revived a deal on a set of them from Whites, he does not refurbish.them. sorry about that. Can you or someone tell me the gap of time from the release of the V3 and the release of the V3i? I am sending this from my phone and am having trouble seeing what I have wrote.

The dealer was leaving town sat. and told me he would fix the problem when he returned home. He also told me to go ahead and try out the detector. I have no doubt that he will fix the little mishap. So far I will continue to buy products from him and when he fixes the problem I will rave to everyone how great he handled the problem. Even if I get stuck with the V3 I will not bad mouth the dealer or stop useing him. I believe he didn't know of the problem. The problem is I was wanting a V3i which was manufactured later and more than likely has less use on it. To me it is like someone saying they have a 2010 car with a Turbo for sale and when I uncrate it at home it is a 1999 that had a Turbo installed after the fact with a little sticker where the Turbo decal should be.

Tell ya what. I have a 6mos. old Vx3 that I will guarantee has always been a Vx3 that I will trade you even up!! Those darned V3-V3i conversions never worked anyways, just ask anyone who has one....

We understand what you are getting at, but seriously, when they upgraded the unit to the V3i, I'm pretty sure you get a new board and anything that even looks mildly worn is replaced, probably a new coil, too. Plus you have White's warranty behind it, which is the industry' best. I would assume you got a good deal on it or else you would have purchased new. Honestly, if it had a different decal on it would you have even known? Nope... you wouldn't have. Like JB was saying, you probably ended up with a better quality detector than most as they were looking more closely at the V3 than a V3i on the line. Best of luck to you and I hope it all works out with your local dealer..

I have a V3 that was just upgraded and for no cost.
They even ( and i'am reading off reciept) replaced
My key pad
Pod front
Lcd window
Then tested 10"dd loop/passed
Upgraded firmware to V3i
Calibrated and tested and inspected

What else could a customer ask for... NOW it is a V3i in every aspect
Great company and great people...:clapping:

That's great whites took care of you and they have always done me good to. That's why I sold my etrac to get the V3i not a V3 w/upgrade. Whites replaced alot for you that is great. I am a little upset because the V3 I got (yes I should have looked closer at it and not just expected everything to be ok just because it was all packaged all meet and all wrapped up in plastic) is in verry poor shape. I was trying to leave.that out. I will post pix....ok I am sorry I should have waited and seen how the dealer took care of the problem, then posted pix and told you thewhole stoyy how much I payed and the shape of the detector. I don't want to bad mouth the dealer because I know he will take care of the problem.

OK, you bought a detector that a dealer sold you. It is the dealers responsibly to know and check what is in the box he is selling you. It is also your responsibility to check what you are buying. If I buy a car it is not the company's fault if the dealer sells me something I didn't want.

You have made 5 posts about a problem that wouldn't have happened to most people. Most of us would have opened the box and said, "this isn't what I want" and that would be that. The problem is between you and the dealer. You said he would take care of it, so please don't repost the same story. Wait until something happens. Your dealer, not Whites owes you a refurbished V3i if that is what he said he was selling you.

And he assures me he will give me a refurbished V3i as soon as he gets back in town all is good.

For all practical purposes you have a V3i with Whites warranty in place. If it was me I would be using it instead of worrying about nothing......:)
