NEW SAFARI OWNER-QUESTIONS.

WONDERING ABOUT A FEW THINGS. I CROSS SAVED TO COINS/ JEWELLERY TO NOT HAVE ICONS. I SET UP THE EXCEPT/REJECT NUMBERS BY ANDY S' BOOK RECOMENDATION. SENSITIVITY AUTO.NOISE CANCEL ON THE GROUND. SOMETIMES THERE IS A "THUNK" SOUND,AFTER THE AUDIO TONE. IS THIS NORMAL? SOMETIMES THE VISUAL NUMBERS AND TONE WILL NOT REPEAT MORE THAN TWICE (WILL NOT REPEAT THE THIRD TIME).IS THIS WIERD? PENNIES SHOW AS 27-30 AND SOMETIMES 37-39. I SENT THE SAFARI TO MINLAB WITH THE COIL. AIR TESTED AGAINST A NEW SAFARI,THERE WAS NOTHING FOUND WRONG. THEY DO NOT DO TESTS IN A GROUND TEST BED.I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR COMMENTS AND EXPERIENCE.
THANKS!!

Hi JS, Not sure what you mean by a thunk sound after what audio? But the Safari can be very slow to react, so not getting the numbers and sound to repeat on a target is within the norm, at least for me. When you hit a target then pass over it again very slowly and in different direction. Sometimes I have to wait and or hold the safari away from the target for a few seconds to get the proper id numbers to come up. Also targets like nails and stuff can give you a non repeating number or a cracking audio. In other words they will sound off but it may be illusive...when I get those targets and dig them they usually turn out to be iron of some sort, even though iron is masked out. A nail can easily come up as a 34 or something like that. As far as pennies go, they can be all over the place depending on the age and type. Usually they are around 32 -38, unfortunatley a dime and penny are often the same number (3:geek: I think the newer pennies ring up at higher numbers such as 37 38. Listen to the sound though. A HIGH 38 is most likely a dime or even a silver dime and NOT a penny. Again the Safari is a slow thinker, but a good machine. sometimes I like to go quicker than I should, but I listen for any quick target THEN I go over it slowly. Usually Safari can pick up a tone if you are going swiftly BUT you will have to go back to it to slowly to get a proper reading. I keep mine on RELIC all the time now. I just listen to the sounds and keep a quick eye on the numbers. Hope this helps. Good luck! Crazy Joe PS if a target WILL NOT REPEAT after several slow tries...skip it.

This could be cause if the target is close to a large piece of iron.

This could happen if the penny is close to another target. I was using my Quattro in conductive tones got weird signal bouncing around from 27 to 38 and I dug the target. I found a coin spill of 2 quarters and 2 pennies with a pull tab and iron under everything. So sometimes you are not going to get the perfect coin signal and meter ID.

Sure sounds like a good Safari to me.Before you noise cancel make sure you go to all metal and search for clean ground the noise cancel in that spot.Set your Disc to 25 and disc out everything below since you are new user.Hunt that way in good locations for at least 20 hours only dig repeatable sweeps they do not have to be smooth repeatable either if you get a broken tone and it sounds like same broken tone dig it could be coin spill. The target ID is just a guideline pay little attention to it.It is a lot of fun but you will do better if you listen to tone.Remember to think small when using pro coil it is like hunting with a stick, the center 11 inches is what you are hunting with not the round part of coil by training yourself to do this you will be able snipe coins in junk.Wear headphones you need to hear when detector nulls out to reposition '' The Stick" let us know how it goes.

PREP, IM TRYING TO UNDERSTAND THIS STICK ANALOGY AND "THE CENTER 11 INCHES IS WHAT YOU ARE HUNTING." I UNDERSTAND THE DOUBLE D THEORY, WHERE A BETTER BIGGER FIELD IS CREATED INSTEAD OF A V CONE SHAPE. PINPOINT ,SHOWS THE TARGET IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD. PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS AGAIN. THANKS.

Hi JS, Not sure what you mean by a thunk sound after what audio?

THE "THUNK" SOUND IS AFTER THE TONE AUDIO. THERE IS A TONE AND THEN A THUNK SOUND. THE THUNK SOUND IS AFTER EVERY TONE. TONE-THUNK. OH WELL, QUESS I WILL LEARN THE TONE DIFFERENCES WITH TIME. WITH THE XTERRA 305, A PENNY WAS A 28,32 A DIME WAS A 38 AND A QUARTER WAS A 40 .WITH THE SAFARI,A PENNY COULD BE 27-38. I WILL HAVE TO LEARN THE TONES.
THANKS FOR ALL THE FEEDBACK GIVEN!!

Only the area below the overlap of the two halves of a DD coil is active, just a couple of inches wide.

See links below for a pictorial explanation.
