Been away from the scene for a lot of years, bought my young son a bounty hunter a few years ago which he hardly used. Took it out for a play a couple of weeks ago and got hooked again. Just received my new Safari and have been out over the weekend. Struggled with the numerous readings and ended up digging up half the hillside, I have come to the conclusion that the problem is caused by heavy mineralisation, I live in Langley On Tyne near Hexham in Northumberland UK this has historically a major lead mining and smelting area( as well as being next to Hadrians Wall) everywhere I dig there is a layer of ash and debris amongst which there are lumps of lead ore and pieces of lead. This usually comes up as a silver reading- Interesting as silver was a by-product of the lead production. As I got a bit better with recognising the tones and numbers I started to find a few old pre decimal coins, some interesting bits of iron(which despite the safari being on coins/jewellery it picks up) and an unusual broach which was about 12" down on the side of the fell which has never been ploughed. The broach and coins gave excellent signals and a 5p piece which was at least 10" deep amongst all kinds of debris sounded loud and clear. All in all very chuffed with the machine, just need to work out the discing etc. Seen a few posts re a book by 'ANDY' which might help, could someone post the details please. Excellent site and some very informative posts.SAPPER910.
