New season of Diggers is on

I case anyone is interested, the National Geographic Channel is airing a new season of Diggers which started this week.

I find the show interesting but I think what turns me off about it is their use of slang terms that I've never heard any other detectorist use. Who knows, it may be things the production company has them say thinking that it makes it more interesting. I think it's funny that this year they are putting the definitions to their slang word at the bottom of the screen. I guess they are hoping that real detectorists start to adopt these terms.

If your a Comcast customer Diggers is available on OnDemand.

Had my say on this in the General Forum.............

For some reason I never look at the other forums but I just took a few minutes to read the posts out in the general forum. Pretty funny! Well at least I'm not the only one that feels the way I do about the show. I have to say that I will watch their future episodes but they'll always sound like boneheads talking the way that they do.

As fast as those guys seem to swing their coil, I think those of us that realize that you have to take your time, we would out detect them every time even if we were using the same detector. Makes me wonder if they left some additional coins from the 1700's at that site.

The way they hunt and carry on, sure makes the rest of us metal detecting people look like a bunch of idiots. I think that I will contact Nat Geo and voice my opinion.

This show illustrates the difference between Hollywood and the real world we serious detectorists live in! It's all theatre and I would be surprised if any of their viewers know squat about detecting. I have to laugh when I see them wildly swinging their detectors!!!

Steve in Idaho .... I already did last year. I didn't get a response, nor did I think that I would. These guys are Bozos and make us all look bad! And the other show with the wrestler.... they are going to make getting permission difficult for us.

I can however say that if you saw the 2 episodes of Diggers this week and caught the one where the guy put the baby doll head in front of the other guys face while he was sleeping and then set the cell phone alarm ... now that was FUNNY!

I have no question that Mapper65 and I could clean these guy's clock when it comes to finds!

I have asked permission from many people to detect a piece of property, sometimes i was a little hesitant because of being a stranger to them, but i have never felt embarrassed to ask, but now thanks to these boneheads and that fake wrestling bonehead i actually feel a slight embarrassment, cause if the people i ask ever saw those worthless, embarrassing shows they may think i am like that. Thanks boneheads.

I think people looking at our comments from afar would think that we are jealous that these guys have their own show and we do not.

It's probably safe to say we all like to have fun while we are out detecting.....but not like a couple of 6 year olds. This is kind of a double edge sword. Non detectorists watching this show will probably never want to take up detecting because of the perception they are getting of detectorists. That's good for us because it means more spots undetected. The other side of the coin was is what yowow#1 had mentioned about who would want to give someone permission to hunt their property if hey thought we were all like this.

It will be interesting to see if this gets picked up for another season.

The show is bad, but looks like an Oscar winner compared to American Digger.

......I felt compelled to either change my username (a nickname I've had since 1972), or post a disclaimer, letting folks know that this Digger has nothing to do with the show Diggers. Since I don't want to change my username, let this post be my disclaimer.

Like others have said, I can't see this show doing anything positive for the hobby. JMHO HH Randy

Show makes me wonder if the sales they make are staged. Some of the prices seem to be very high. I only watched a couple shows.

I also wonder if people who do watch think we are all out there getting rich with our MDs.

Jeff

It would be nice if they showed the nails and pulltabs dug. It isn't that bad.

They should make the episodes available on Hulu or Netflix.

Watched the show this week, they found a model A hubcap that was a piece of junk worth $40. I found the exact same one in 200% better condition. Ebay here I come, those idiots may be worth something after all! Thanks Ringie and King ... LOL

Just when you thought that the Diggers were the ultimate buffoons, Rick Savage has his wife join the show. What's up with the Bruno Sammartino boots with the pink laces? BOOM BABY ... you look stupid! As bad as that show already was, we didn't need additional drama infused into it!

Anyone notice how their detectors beep the whole time they are swinging? Must be filler sounds added during the quiet times between finds I guess. Sure sounds fake.

I caught one on TV last week called Swamp Hunters, or something like that. Ironically, it was on TruTV???? Anyway, these guys were trying to recover an old sugar pot from the swamp. Digging for a few hours didn't free it up...... so they used explosives and blew out the hole. I swear, it made the Diggers show almost look legitimate. I said almost...... HH Randy

There two different digger shows in case you didn't know. American diggers and just plain diggers. I didn't know this until I seen this thread.

Robhob... yes, I should have been clearer in my description DIggers ... the two buffoons with their own language is Diggers, and newly renamed Savage Family Diggers (formerly American Diggers). The second was the one that I was ripping on.

lrsjr... yes, the beeping drives me crazy on that show. If my detector actually did that, I'd be half batty before I found anything.

Down in Australia we have recently got that one with the ex wrestler (is that Rick Savage?)
Man that guy makes us all look fools ..I hope no one views it...I doubt they will its so bad
I especially hope not too many Aussie farmers watch this crap - some might even expect a few Thousand $$$ (like the wrestler gives them) if we hunt their land
I never mind sharing my finds with any landowner as its a privilege to hunt on private land but those values are not realistic where I come from..

The talk / the slang !#? is that what it is ?? boom baby etc
Whew ...thank goodness real Americans don't talk like that

One that I saw he ordered a backhoe in and when the farmer saw that he grabbed his shottie and was waving it around ...Hollywood high drama at its worst
I watched one more episode o=at some river delta and from then on decided that show was not my cup of tea.
