Hey all,
I purchased ths 6X8 and 10X12 SEF coils last summer in July. (I already had the 12X15) They work great however, at the time I received them, my X-1 probe was in the shop so I was required to run the cord up the lower and upper shafts. That was when my problem started. The cord on the new ones I received, the "pig tail/curled" part was a wider diameter than the 12X15 I owned. Where the 12X15 I could just drop the cord down the shafts, the new ones I was not able to do this. I physically had to tie a string to the cord and pull it through the shaft. This caused the cord to stretch and now the loops are not as tight and coiled as when I received them. Since the cord was too big for the shaft, I am not able to adjust the height of the shafts, nor can I collapse them to fit in the back of my car. To collapse the shafts, I have to physically grab the cord down at the bottom near the coil, and pull it fairly hard out of the shaft. This is putting stress on the cord, as well as the strain relief that goes into the coil itself. As many of you X-1 probe users know, constantly moving the coil will cause the internal wires to fray and eventually require the coil to be replaced.
So my question to all you new SEF owners who do not use an X-1 probe, has Kellyco resolved this cord problem? I called them at the time and gave them the measurments of the old coils and the new ones, and I was told the specs they provide to their supplier was the same as my older SEF coil, the 12X15. So, the coil cords should just slide in and out of the Explorer shafts.
Please respond back and let me know. As I have not had these two coils for a year, I'm hoping KellyCo's great customer service will allow some sort of exchange, or at the very least a replacement of the cords. (I didn't follow up when I first got them because I never thought I would be detecting without my X-1) I have been using my explorer more often without my X-1 and I am concerned that this constant pulling of the cord when I put the detector in and out of my card will shorten the life of my SEF coils considerably.
Thanks in advance all for your feedback.
Jai.
