New Sovereign GT Video

JHM/
When in a park where I will find plenty of trash to go thru , and I find a lot of iron in the area, I will take my E Trac, with a good discrimination pattern, and strap on the Sunray X-5 and inch along ...... I can bring my Sensitivity up without issue , and I don't get a lot of bad feedback from ground conditions due to the smaller size of hte coil, and seperation is 2nd to none with this coil ....I can also get close to the depth of the Pro Coil .. It's the best I've used yet for cherry picking ..... Jim

Jim, you have a way with words.I don't post much anymore and I see as a result my ramblings can stand some clarity. Sometimes when you want to have your say you can get brain cell wrap around. Like iron- mask- on the quarter doesn't always get unmasked.. It's finally cooled off here in NW Florida. The heat is gone, the water is clear and warm , and the summer beach crowds have all headed home .Time for me to head to the beach for some water hunting. Contrary to some postings warning of danger, we have no oil on our beautiful beach. Come on down. HH Don

Don ,
Not a problem with Rembling ....I can do my share too !!.... Glad the oil did not invade your beach ....That was a terrible misfortune .....Thanks for the invite , but I'm affraid that I am busier than a one armed wall paper hanger at this time, and my wife has more plans for the future .... She's got that never ending "Honey Do " list ...... One of these days I'm gonna hide it on her !!.....Be well and enjoy the cooler weather down there ......Sincerely, Jim

That was well said. I remember thinking what a fool my Dad was at a lot of the things he would say and do. :confused:
He told me a lot of things would happen to me in my life and you know he was right.:thumbup:
Up until the day I was 21yrs. old I would really get into with him. The day after I was 21, I had the occasion to look at what he had told me. At that point I really opened my eyes. I guess things get better with age.:clapping:
He's been gone now for 26 yrs. I miss him.
My Father in Law was another one. Boy did he and I go round and round :argue: I sure wish he was here to go out metal detecting with me.
For that matter I wish that they were both still here.....no I don't think so I'd never have any peace :stretcher:
But I can say this I think they both sure would have gotten along well. Being as they were both a couple squids!

You know I am just curious. How much does it matter about the impedance difference of the headphones being 32 ohms as opposed to 100-150 ohms. I recognize that the manufacturer of anything should know the best design parameters of what they engineered and produced.

For that reason I tend to gravitate toward the 32 ohm headphones, but the ones I've found are not equipped with what to me is an important feature, the ability to volume limit when passing over large shallow targets. I hate that sudden blare of sound, and I really want that feature in order to hunt the Sovereign at its full volume setting, and if I understand correctly maximum depth.

So any opinion or technical argument as to why one is better than the other will be appreciated.

I haven't tried them yet but the Jolly Roger Ultimate's have a limiter and a Impedance of 16 ohms. That's a little closer to 32. I have always preferred lower Impedance with most of the detectors I've used especially with detectors that have a wide signal response like some older White's detectors that had 4 filters and also the Sovereigns. For me they seem to narrow the signal a bit.

I looked at the Jolly Rogers Treasure Ears which are 32 ohms but do not have the limiter. However the Ultimate's may be good a very good compromise. The only other choice with the Treasure Ears with an add on limiter. Sort of cumbersome to deal with the add on when it can be built into the headphones.

Thanks for your suggestion.

OK, being bored to tears in my hotel room I decided to do some research on speaker impedance and refresh my memory on electrical/electronic calculations.

Subject:
Impact of different speaker impedance on performance of a set of detector headphones.

Output Power is calculated as P=V[sup]2[/sup]/Impedance

Impedance Ohms Yields Output Power in Watts

16 = 12 Watts
32 = 6
64 = 3
128 = 1.5

As can be seen doubling impedance halves the power output. It also lowers power consumption, which is why your batteries last longer if you use headphones as opposed to the speaker on the detector.

So the lower the impedance higher the possible volume but also higher power consumption.

Dynamic frequency range I think, is at least partially, a function of the quality of the speaker used in the headphones.

So does more power at the speakers make it easier to hear faint deep signals? Anyone know? I know the maker of the Rat Phones has big dissertation on this, but I can't seem to find the web page.

I'm currently looking for a used S-5 coil but they're scarce. I would also like to get an SE in the future. Don't need to invest that much right now. Been off work 7 weeks with knee surgery. I've read a lot of good comments about the etrac.

I use original Grey Ghosts on almost all my machines. Very clean and crisp audio. However, when using them on my Sov Elite I run the Sov at max volume and the headphones one click down from max... reason being, once on full headphone volume the tones completely change and the pitches are all different and the audio almost sounds muffled like being underwater. It's loud for sure, but it gets a weird distortion to it. One click off max provides clean crisp audio and the ability to hear the threshold waiver even the slightest bit. I'm pulling dollar coin sized targets to 2 ft and coins at roughly 10" or so (may not have come across deeper ones yet), and 22 shells and buckshot balls to 6" with crisp audio... Try it out if you have GG's, run one click off max and let me know if it clears up the warbled muffled audio...

If you watch the video closely you will see how he made the coin disappear. It would have disappeared whether iron mask was on or off.

Crazyman ,
What are you talking about ? .......OK I give up ...How did he make the coin disapear ? .......Did he turn the volume down ? .......:rofl:

OK guys .....Being the cheap son of a gun that I am , I went for a set of phones with a slightly higher ohm rating , and it includes an inline volume control and also comes with the 1/4 inch adapter ......All for under 20 bucks !1....I know I know .....Last of the BIG TIME spanders !!.....Here's the link

Free shipping , but had to pay tax ....Jim

The only thing i noticed was a slightly different direction on the pass

So there was intentional deceit in that video? I am still puzzled...

The test itself and the result is deceitful in this case. The person is only deceitful if he knows it and then perpetuates it.

Well put crazyman. I am a little shocked, though. Crazyman, I still want to talk to you about horrible mineralized ground and the GT. I am hunting near Portland, OR and if I raise the sensitivity above 3 PM, I get constant nulling, which I am assuming is mineralization.

:laugh: does that mean i win the next :pulltab: as trophy

Although i don't think it was done on purpose, Sometimes one may exaggerate to illustrate the point, is that deceitful?

......BUT WAIT KERED !!!.....THAT"S NOT ALL !!!...... YOU WIN A FEATURE SPOT IN THE NEXT MOVIE, SHOWING HOW YOU DUG DOWN 3 FT TO FIND THAT PULL TAB WHICH WAS IMBEDDED IN A CLUSTER OF NAILS WITH YOUR SOVEREIGN GT !! ......TELL HIM WHAT ELSE HE WON JOHNNY !!!..... IT"S YOUR VERY OWN IRON MASK !!! ...... SIGNED BY .......
