New Tesoro models????

Seems to be a lot of speculation and rumors going around about future Tesoro detectors coming out. I visited my dealer about a week ago, and asked him if there was anything in the works. He told me he was unaware of any new models in the near futue. Perhaps, Tesoro is ultra-secret about research and development with possible new models. I too would like to see new models, as this keeps our detecting hobby exciting. I highly doubt that there would be any ground breaking "NEW" technology coming around. Been swinging coils now for 25 years, and not much has changed with technology. Garrett is about to release the new AT Pro, and I noticed that the operating frequency is 15 khz. What do you know!!!! That's about the same frequency that the newer Tesoros run at (Tejon, Vaquero, and Cibola). I am sure that Mr. Garrett's new detector will be a winner, but has technology really changed?

I still truly like the simplicity of the Tesoro lineup, and my primary machines do not have VDI screens. I have learned to dis-trust VDI numbers, icons and the sort. I have often wondered what kind of finds I may have passed up, by looking at VDI numbers? Using the simpler machines, I dig more targets and have the fun of trying to guess what's under my coil. I do know, that my very best finds have been found with Tesoro machines.

So, I would like to thank the Giffords for still producing some of the very best machines out there.

I am thinking the same way you are I have used a couple of VDI Detectors, just seemed to take the fun out of detecting. I was always wondering if I using the right program, if the setting were correct, etc. After a while it just seemed to take the fun out of detecting. Now with my "Tejon", it's just ground balance and go. I have dug the most nickles and pull tabs (Pull Tabs are donated to Ron Mc D's house) with the Tejon, but that's my choice. I know that the gold is just on the Horizon. My coin and silver finds have also gone up. I walk away from each detecting session with a big smile on my face Knowing if there was anything in the ground I found it

Why do people think that Tesoro is secretly developing a new detector. They cant fix the problem with the old ones.Going on 2 years to remedy the Tiger Shark. That is inexcuseable. 6 months ago, we heard from Tesoro any week now.Well I hope I'm wrong, but I think their going under.

I don't think they're going under, yet. We don't know how well their sales are. Maybe they are doing quite well on the global market. But the time will come, sooner or later, when they will need some new blood in the line-up. Everyone wants a new machine with a display, but maybe they are better off sticking with what they are great at (no offense to the Cortes/Deleon owners, but those aren't Tesoro's best work). Maybe pushing the envelop with "beep and dig" machines is where they should stay. Waterproof? Multi-frequency? Adjustable notch width? There's a lot that can still be done in the beep-and dig world.

From my understanding Tesoro can't find a supplier of the quality part to fix the Tiger Shark, that in no way means they can't fix the old ones. As long as there are people like me and there are many, Tesoro has no fear of going under. I would take 20 year old Tesoro models over alot of the newer other brands.

Whiz, I whole heartedly agee with you on taking a 20 year old tesoro, over some of the new other brands. It seems that depth is the main reason, that most people are buying newer detectors. I haven't found any particular brand that excels with depth and can give an acccurate meter or vdi reading. In that situation, you have to depend upon the sound in your decision to dig or not to dig. The Tejon excels with depth, and hits hard on nickels and gold. My Cibola hits hard on the medium conductors, and has made my very best finds, gold included. It's hard to improve upon the current models that Tesoro has in their line-up.

What we truly need is a detector that can tell the difference between aluminum and gold (composition), not conductivity. Until that happens, not much will change with technology.

With my over 40 different detectors over the years, about a third of them id machines, I have never had a machine id a target over 8 inches accurately. Yes a new detector from Tesoro would be nice.

I read that in Tesoro's advertisement in the December issue of Lost Treasure magazine. I just hope Tesoro doesn't end up like and
I wonder if Jack Gifford is even interested in the future of Tesoro? I have many of his 1980s units. Original Cortes,Inca and Toltec 100. I hope Tesoro can compete and stay around for years to come. Keep those Spanish named metal detectors coming! Here is a picture of an original Cortes. I own one with a factory straight rod.
