Happy Holidays everyone. I just recieved a new Tesoro Tiger Shark for Christmas and was wondering if anyone had any tips or pointers before I get started. This is my third Tesoro so I'm not new to the brand. It is however my first water machine so living in CT I'm pretty excited to hit the beaches. Especially after one of our famous "Nor'ester" storms. Tired of worrying about getting my detectors wet!! I also use the new Vaquaro, and a Bandido II that I purchased off of Ebay. My "back-up" machine is a Whites XLT.

Congrats to ya Captin,

I have only used mine a few times and am still getting use to it. My only recommendation is leave the sensativity where it is until you can use it at the beach and go to salt mode. Some of the falsing issues are related to cranking up the sensativity for regular land use then going to beach and not turning it down because of the access. I have not hit the salt yet and have not been tempted to adjust the internal setting until I get more time in on it and use it at the beach in the factoy settings.

I gotta agree with Davy. The TS will false on the wet salt(like any VLF unit) at too high SENS settings. Dont expect less. This is my one complaint with the TS - the SENS setting is not adjustable at point of use (...well it is, but I dont recommend it on a windy sand blown beach). Its a quibble I suppose, but one I'd like to have corected.

Fortunately, much falsing is recognizable as such because it "drifts" and wont repeat consitently. It will drive you nuts, though, and is a good reason the run your SENS just a tad lowere then you might otherwise.
 
Thanks for the info guys. I went to Misquamicut beach ( southern Rhode Island ) today and did encounter the false " chatter" you were talking about. It was pretty clear what it was and didn't interfere with the target signals. I have to say when I did find a target, this machine sang out like a church choir!! Didn't find much, couple of pennies and some junk, but had a blast learning. I like the depth so far. I did pick up a piece of junk metal at one foot down, and was darn near taken out by a rouge wave diggin for it!!:surrender: The R.I. beaches are loaded with black sand which has given me trouble with my other machines in the past. I have to agree about the sensitivity and threshhold adjustments. Not the best place for them but I'll get over it. I am a Tesoro fan all the way. And with a lifetime warrenty, I'm hooked on the brand.

The wave crashing into you as you recovered a target is a GREAT example of why I tell people with non-waterproof machines to stay on the dry sand. Its temptng, after seeing pictures of what people find at the water line to head down there. Most folks without dedicated surf gear say something like "Well, I'll be careful..." Which has probably been responsible for more ruined detectors than we'd care to count.
