Hello all,
Just wanted to say hi, I've been detecting off and on for about 10yrs with a whites idx classic....last summer I sold it to a friend at work and within a month started to get the bug again so after much research ( and begging my wife!) about 2 weeks ago purchased a minelab x-terra 505 and hopefully sometime soon I'll actually get the hang of the manual ground balancing :)
Kansas Greg.

Welcome to the forum . Bunch of good detectorist here. Be sure to check out the faq faq post at top of page . Loads of information there. I had a x-terra 50 and did well with it, but wanted the auto ground balance and tracking so bought a used 70 off of the classifieds

Welcome to the forum Greg. Like my fellow Kentucky Boy said. Lots and lots of really good information here. Years of detecting experience from all the people on this site. I hope you enjoy the forum as much as I do and I can't wait to see pictures of your finds. Good luck and good diggin.

Welcome to the X-TERRA Forum. I think you'll find a LOT of very accomplished X-TERRA users on here that are always willing to answer questions you may have. As to setting your ground phase.......depending on your soil and the coil you are using, you may not ever get a true "break point" between the high tone and low tone. The key to ground balancing the X-TERRA is to switch to all metal to make sure there is nothing metallic under the coil, press the GB pad, raise and lower the coil from a height of 5 or 6 inches, don't let the coil touch the ground and listen for the tone as you lower the coil. The point at which the high and low tone blend, or change from one to the other, is where you'll want to be. JMHO HH Randy
