New to me Fisher F 75 SE gonna take a bit to get to know

With disc set low, areas above that will be notched out like normal on most other detectors.
With disc set high, setting a notch below that number notches areas back in.
On the F75 you can notch in, (or notch out), half sections...half of tabs, half of foil, etc.
It can be confusing, what is worse just doing the opposite steps that you do setting a notch to un-set them it might look like you successfully got rid of that notch but that is usually not true at all.
It might be that many a Fisher has been sold because owners on purpose or accidentally set a notch, didn't reset the unit to 100% get rid of it and sold it because it acted wonky ever after.

That reset also brings most other weird behavior into line as you found.

Agree with Rivier notches are easy set and un-set is just the reverse and I have been doing the f75 since 2010. I sill don't trust taking out notches, so I just do a factory reset so I don't mess up my day.
Even if I get into EMI the first thing I do is a factory reset and see if goes away.

A factory reset is your best friend.

You know, I never really used notch settings on other units. That is the reason for a numerical ID. I will just leave it alone because I know a notch setting blanked out can mask a good target too.

It can come in handy sometimes in certain circumstances, I rarely use mine but once in awhile I have.
Unlike your unit my F70 will not notch out half regions...set a notch anywhere in any area and the whole section goes away.
Out of everything the F75 can do that mine cannot this feature is about the only one I wish I had.

I was hunting at a real trashy park once that had tons of tabs, both the sta tabs and the beaver tail kinds.
The sta tabs were in the mid 30's, the beaver tails were higher into the 40's and there were way more of those beaver tails.
I was tired and on that hunt didn't have much patience for checking out every blasted more solid signal I came across on a lot of these tabs but I am a gold hunter and when looking for that metal the what if's still have a nagging way of bothering me in decent higher percentage gold possibility sites.
On that occasion I would have loved to have the ability to notch out all of those higher signal beaver tails but still keep in those sta tabs since this was a more common area for gold rings to come in.
I could have lived with that and the what if's would not have bothered me.

Other times I have tried some new settings that I actually had some great success using and still use from time to time.
I blast the disc way up to 65 to get rid of everything except the high stuff but notched tabs and nickels back in in case there might be some gold hanging around...sometimes foil, too.
I might be crazy but I still seem to get as deep as I can with this setting combination as anything else and it might even be a bit quieter using high gain.
You have heard that using the frequency, thresh and gain settings can have an effect on and mitigate noise and chatter...I suspect raising up the disc level to higher levels might have some sort of effect on this issue too but don't quote me on that.

I keep telling you how amazing these things can be...you will see.

Yeah it says in the manual that in the f 75 turning up the disc setting will also increase the sensitivity. That is another reason the new fishers are different from other brands. It looks like you have found an old boy about dumping ground!!! It is fun to dig that about stuff. I have dug 3 eagle rings in the past. Those are some good diggings!!
