New to me vaquero

I just received it and when putting it together noticed that the thin bolt that holds the coil on is metal, not plastic like on some other brand machines I've owned. Is this normal and ok? Thanks and HH. Bob

Should be just fine, the coil cable, after all, is metal wiring too.

On my Vaq, I opened up the bracket holes with a drill and used a spare Garrett bolt. Seems more secure less likely to move around.

Yes. The older vaqueros had smaller holes in the ears of the coil and on lower shaft and had metal coil hardware. Mine (20th anniversary edition) came with the same thing. In order to use other newer coils you will have to get a new lower rod and hardware bolt. When you do that, you'll need to take a 1/4 drill bit through your stock coil's ears so it will accept the modern coil bolt.

If you don't plan on using other coils you have nothing to worry about or do.
Just letting you know all that in case you pick up another coil and run into issues. I recommend you throw in a new lower rod whenever you order another coil.
