Howdy All, I've been reading your post without joining until today. I got my new minelab in the mail last week and then it snowed in Kansas a good 10 inches. Now they are saying Kansas will be getting maybe another round of snow, I've been begging God for sunshine but also know we need the moisture. Keep writing the good tips on how to use the machine I appreciate all your information. Hopefully once the snow melts I'll be able to share with you some finds.

Welcome to forum!! Lot of great info to read about here!!

People go crazy when there is bad weather. Watch how many go to the store to suply up on everything. Now, when the snow plows pile up that snow you can have fun. When it starts to melt, get out there and start hunting. I have done pritty good at them snow piles after they melt. People get cold fingers. When dig for there keys with gloves on they will loose all kinds of goodies. So get out. KEN

Yea the snow is melting here in Salina Kansas so out I went after work last night. Its a noisy machine isn't it?? Whow seemed like any movement at all a it was beeping at something. Dug several holes but only came up with one pull tab out of the ground. Got cold and dark so took it home and sat it on my table and pulled out some coins to run them under the coil to see what sounds I was suppose to be hearing & maybe what numbers to look for. Is higher the pitch the better, I guess??? I had a real high pitch sound last night that I dug and couldn't find anything, I forgot to take my pin pointer that I got along with the detector but I dug a pretty gosh darn big hole and if I was using the machines pin pointer right was suppose to be right on it, maybe I'm just not use to a machine that find things deeper and I needed to dig more. I'll go out again and try that same spot taking the new hand pin pointer. Also another problem I had was I would think I had a good sound, got the spot pin pointed using the machine, dig and then after digging lost the sound. I would run the machine over the hole to see if target was still in there and nothing. This happened to me at least 3 times. I read a post started by SeniorSeeker on numbers charts and what numbers will pop up with certain items and I was having those high 30 numbers popping up and would dig but then find nothing. I would pin point dig, then try and pin point again to see where it was and the pin pointer on machine would then take me a inch off the hole, so I would dig out the hole more, pin point again and again it would be a little off from where it told me before. I would then give up due to having a pretty big hole dug and not wanting to get in trouble for digging trenches in the local park. I didn't take a picture of my first find to show you all....LOL :lmfao: I'm sure you all know what a :pulltab: looks like. LOL

Good news is I'm now on my two days off work. Sunday & Monday off, had the battery on the charger all night so it would hopefully be full of charge. Bought the 9 Volt needed for the hand held pin pointer, woke up at 6:30am so had breakfast and will be heading out soon for my Second day with the Safari.

Welcome Aboard! Looking forward to seeing your finds!

try running the sensitivity lower, I kinda had the same chatty problem the 1st time i took my out too. these things are way more sesitive than I was used to

Thanks for the advise on turning the sensitivity down I will try that tomorrow since I read your post to late to try it today. I detected for 6 hours today and found 3 penny's, dime and yep a bunch of junk. I sometimes get a high pitch sound but just one beep, run over it several times nothing then all sudden another high pitch. When I then try to pin point it, I can't get a very good sound on where it is. Worried that its a coin turned up right, or something really deep, I dig & dig & dig, try to pin point it again and nothing. Bah....just wasted 10 mins, fill the hole and move on to have it beep at me again. The coins that I did find sounded good and was easier to pin point but they were also close to the top so don't know if that makes a difference or not in the sound? Had a lot of fun, will have cramps in my legs tonight, my back hurts, I bent my shovel and my arms are killing me but besides horseback riding can't think of anything else I would have rater done on my day off. :wiggle: Does anyone have a video of them using a safari that has the sounds it has and what they dig out of the hole with those sounds????

I have video's as MrShovelnose on YouTube with the Safari. New one coming this evening from Sunday hunt along with working on my test garden. Unless I know I have a low trash area I always use Auto sens. and high trash setting. Recover time is bad on Safari with low trash and have to work really slow. Smaller coil can help but I just like the 11" separation so much it never comes off. In my area of NC we have a lot of minerals in the ground and it will "null" out the threshold sound due to slow recovery. If that's the case I switch over to my AT Pro. Fast recovery and same depth but just don't like the sounds as well as Safari. When I hit silver it screams at me and there is no mistaking it. Welcome to the forum. Get the Safari book by Andy Sabish. Lots of good info. Im not using mine if you want it. Ive had mine 2 years now with well over 500 hrs on it. Just cant seem to let it go to upgrade to E trac.

Funny you should mention the Book. I just bought one off Ebay and they should be shipping it to me as we type. :clapping: I went out again today going to a area lake with camping grounds and with the lake being very low due to lack of water there is a lot of coves that had boat docks to load and unload on and then also coves where the people swim. Took my dad with me, giving him the old whites classic id to use and of course he got beginners luck and came up with a silver ring second dig. Think he finished with the ring and 1 penny, 2 dimes. I ended the day with 2 dimes and a quarter. I've got another question for all if I could ask away??? Today I wrote down the numbers from the chart that I read on a post from here so that I could focus on those numbers and what sounds I was getting from them. I of course dug a lot of trash even when a 36 - 39 showed up on the screen and it sounded good but at least I wasn't digging every sound made and not finding anything today. If doing detecting at say a lake, park where going for coin / jewelry do I only need to focus on sounds with numbers 14 thur 16, and 36 thur 39??? Is everything else junk?? I get a lot of 20 that sound good and 33 - 34 but so far its always been junk. Have to head back to work tomorrow which will be good since my muscles ache and I've got a blister on the palm of my hand from the digging tool so need time to heal up. :sleepy:

Thank you sir for taking the time to One make video's, Two to share them with us and Three to respond to my cry for help and let me know about them. Greatly appreciated I will check them out.

The coil that came with your safare is a " D D". I had the same problem you do when trying to find that target. My hole kept getting wider. You need to learn hop to pin point with the front center or the back center of the coil. That might help. Put a coil on the ground , and practice that way It should help. Thats how I do it. After a while you wont even use pin point. You will get good at it . Just practice... KEN

I'm not much of a Producer but glad you enjoy them. You have to get a Garrett Pin Pointer. As important as a digging tool. Saves time and keeps from digging huge holes that can get you thrown out of the spot you're hunting.

:jump: OK think that with you all's help finally got it figured out. With my White's classic ID there was basically one sound tone it made and from that sound tone I can tell if its junk or goodie. If it sounds like a radio station that your driving out of its tower range, then bad target. If it sounds like a blu ray movie then its a goodie under there. Now with my new detector the only difference Is there is more sound tones but to find the good targets is still the same. Just as long as I focus on good sound and don't look at the numbers ect until ready to dig I should be good.?????? Can't wait until a day off so I can go hunting again and really work at it with these new ideas in my head. Hopefully will have a picture of finds one of these times to show all. Thanks again for posting messages of lessons that you have learned, I've been reading all that I can during my time off work and those messages I'm reading are sure helping. :wiggle:
