I just bought a brand spanking new x-terra 705. Very excited about learning it's ins and outs and participating on the forum. HH

Welcome to the forum. You bought yourself a good one. Looking forward to your post and finds.

The best imop

Welcome to the X-TERRA forum. I think you'll find the X-TERRA to be a great detector. If I might offer a few suggestions...... take a look at the eBook I wrote entitled Understanding your X-TERRA. It is available as a free download at Minelab's website. And there is a link for it toward the top of these posts. Next, take a look at the FAQFAQ section. Lots of frequently asked questions in there! Third, if you have a particular subject you want to learn more about, do a search of this site using key words. And most important, don't hesitate to ask questions. There are a LOT of very nice folks on here that understand how to get the most out of their X-TERRAs. Again, welcome! HH Randy

The last machine I owned had a manual ground balance, my first one. In the owners manual it stated to have a neutral to slightly positive gb, depending whether I was going to hunt in all metal or discrimination. My question is when is a negative gb needed? One last thing. I have tried to sign up and/or log in on the Minelab home site. I fill out the form and it states that I will get a email to activate my account. I've tried three times over the last couple of days and I have received nothing. Any Idea's. Thanks for the help. Terry

Not wanting to hijack a thread here...BUT... Digger has done an outstanding job with his Ebook!! I cant believe its free and it is very informative and useful supplemental guide in getting to know your xterra. This man cannot get enough praise for his efforts.

Findmall is the best for Xterra information..believe me I have searched around. You wont find a better subforum or group of people to ask questions.

Grats on your purchase!! The 705 is an amazing machine for its price and you will love it!!

Thanks for the comments. Glad you are enjoying the book. For those who may not have been visiting this forum when the book was initially released, I wrote it as a way of my giving back something to a hobby that has provided me with nearly 40 years of pleasure. I don't work for Minelab, nor am I a dealer for any product. I'm just a guy who enjoys sharing information about this great hobby. Having been involved in the initial Field Tests for the X-TERRA, I had spent several years exploring the functionality of the X-TERRAs and taking notes of what worked well for me. Moderating this forum also provided me with questions that needed to be answered. Eventually, my notes turned into several hundred pages that needed to be shared with others. Not having a website of my own, I knew I needed some help in making the information available to others. Unfortunately, I found that most publishers were more interested in generating a profit for themselves, instead of simply promoting the hobby. And as I've said, profit wasn't my reason for writing it. Long story short........Kevin Hoagland of Minelab heard of my project and took an electronic copy of my files to Minelab Corporate in Australia. Eventaully, they agreed to my terms.......... I give them the material for free....... they publish an eBook that is free. And again, I'm glad you're enjoying it! Thanks again for the kind words. HH Randy
