new to the dual field PI world

Welcome to the "Dual Field" Zone - I am new to the PI as well. I have been reading post here a lot but I just got my Clive James book "Pulse Power.." and it is a huge help for me. I have been spending a large part of my off from work learning the "Tones" or lack there of. I have yet to dig gold but I know the machine works well. The only advice I can give you starting out - get a large scoop to dig deep with. I purchased a basket on the end of an adjustable handle but I have to scoop a lot to get deep. After reading the book and tired of multiple scooping to get to the deep targets, I am looking into stronger, larger scoops now. I am also going to purchase a coil protector. I dive / search fresh water lakes, got myself a shorter dive shaft too. Good luck to you.

Still getting used to my new DF i found one silver ring the second time out just have to find the right settings for the beach i am hunting in southern California. But it is true you have to dig a lot and i have found my first post earring it was junk but the DF picks up everything out there. Getting used to the bobbie pins double beep that really helps out but i still dig them hoping they might be something real good. But it is a real good detector just trying to get used to if for now. any help would be appreciated. I have a Excalibur ll and so far i like the DF over the Excal ll time will tell.

If you can find some one to work with - some one has experience with a dual field - I think would be of real help. I have not been able to locate such a person in my neck of the woods yet. Oh, and did I say a big scoop? It will take time and I really recommend Clive's book, you can get one from Kellyco for 11.00. Take a look at Clive's website, there is another book in there that I think may be help full (I have not got that one yet). In Clive's book I gleaned the fact that there are different ways to set it up depending on your experience and /or knowledge of what to listen for. Some people listen for fluctuation "within" the threshold sounds & others listen for the very slight whispers when the threshold tone is very low. Most of my beaches are strewn with trash and bits of old concrete with metal embedded. The weather here has not been good for the swimmers yet this year so the beaches have not been getting "re-filled" yet. Some thing else I have learned from Clive's book - tuning seems to be very important to help you ID specific items, this I am guilty of not doing. Once again, good luck with your hunting - If you make any Revelations, please pass them along, I am learning my Dual field as well.
