Hello everyone,
I'm Steve from upstate NY and I have been reading the forums for awhile and I decided to jump in and share my experiences with the ETRAC so far. All I can say is WOW!!! This machine has allowed me to find hundreds of finds in just months of detecting (March to June of this year). The quality of finds and the ability to pull out more keepers from worked-out sites is stunning. I started slow with parks to get a feel for the machine, and I have graduated to old homes and even a Revolutionary War battlefield that has produced musket balls, pistol balls, and two large cents among more modern finds of 2 Indians (1863 and a ?? one), 2 mercs (28 and 43) and 3 rosies. When you guys said it takes about a hundred hours to get good with the machine, you were really dead-on. Now when I go to a site, I am confident I can cover the area thoroughly and distinguish what is in the ground before I pull it out. My detecting buddy has a Whites VX3 and although he has pulled up some goodies, it seems I outdo him in coin totals and quality finds when we hunt together. If anyone here is having a hard time figuring out the machine, you definitely need to keep using it and read Andy's book at least 2 times through. Oh and TTF is the bomb. Don't count it out. Ever.
I'll post some photos of my best finds so far in another post. I hope you all are having a great summer of dirt fishing, because I sure am!
For those of you who think you can't find anything good...I did recently find a GW inaugural button...eagle and star type....in beautiful condition! I was totally not expecting to find something so rare!
Happy hunting!
