New to the Quattro/ slow recovery

Hi all, picked up a used Quattro as a backup to my Explorer XS. Tried it out the other day and was surprised at how slow the recovery speed was. I knew it was slow before I bought it but thought it would be comparable to my XS. Well the XS is fast as lightning compared to the Quattro. It was a fairly trashy area that we were searching, I was swinging slow. I found it to be almost unusable in these conditions. I've got Andy's book and will read it and I'm also going to try my 8" coil on it next time. Any advice would be appreciated. Like I said I knew this unit had a slow recovery speed before I bought it but it seems ridiculously slow to me.

Yull get used to it .8inch coil is much better than stock in trashy areas.Good machine find more clad with it than any machine ive ever used. Good luck happy hunting

hello lovepulltabs, I have read andys book several times. it has helped with some things but as far as trashy areas are concerned, there are just no menu adjustments that i have made that have made a big difference. it nulls out so much that (like i said in a previous post) it's like having the machine shut off. i can actually put a quarter under the the plate & it will actually miss the quarter on the first 2 0r 3 sweeps. it really sucks in trashy areas and for the most part,. most of the older areas are trashy vacant lots etc. i thought about buying a smaller coil but I really dont think it will warrant spending $ 200 on a machine that is just plain slow. I'm going to look into a cheap machine for trash areas. they seem to be the best. I will keep the quatro for the beach though. if it werent for the beach it would have been the worst $1000 i ever spent.i think for $200 i can buy a new machine like my buddys son has and he has no problems in trash areas. good luck all.

Well you can buy the minelab 8inch coil for like 100 bucks used on ebay like i did.Today i went to a real trashy park and it did pretty good.I got more clad while i was there than any other machine ive used. At the beach the quattro is silent smooth and a great machine. Overall its a good machine.Just goto go slow sometimes or re sweep same area to pick your target you want.Once you learn it its a pretty good detector.

And don't forget to use High Trash AND to LOWER the sens in trashy areas.

Works well for me.

Darn good beach machine.

There is also the 5" excelerator coil or the new SEF 6x8 that are reported as being a good solution for trashy sites. Not a bad investment considering it would fit both your detectors.
