New Whites owner has some questions... :wacko: .Please & Thank You!

I have just gotten a Whites Blue & Gray Pro and I don't understand a few items about it. First, it looks to me as White's uses different frequencies for different detectors. Those frequencies are used to determine which coil you can use on the different machines. If that is correct then an 8 inch coil will not work on all machines. Correct??? Now here is the question, What is the frequency of the Blue & Gray Pro and what coils will work with the B&G machine??? Thanks for helping a newbie out... P.S. I have looked on the white's site and in the B&G Instruction Manual....(which at this time makes no sense.) Thanks again.

It uses the same coils as IDX, XL-Pro, XLT among others and yes, it can be fitted with a 8" coil.
Monte can give you a run-down on the coils that will work on it, if he sees your post.

The Blue & Grey is the same exact detector as a Coin Master 5900 Di Professional Series (circa 1985), with these differences: the meter face is changed to reflect relic values rather than coins, Blue & Grey decals have been added. In some cases, you can even find units that you can see the 5900 under the B&G decals.
The operating frequency of your detector is 6.592 kHz. This frequency has been, for many years, the mainstay of White's general purpose detectors.
Coils: there are a variety of coils available for your detector. For the most part, any coil labeled Blue Max or Black Max will work. There is a Blue Max 4x6 elliptical coil that will work, but isn't really a great performer. The Blue Max 350 is a 3.5" concentric coil for really trashy areas, or close to large metal objects. The Bullseye 5.3 is the next size up, followed by the Royal 800, Blue Max 800, and (I think) Black Max 800 (all 8" coils). The Blue Max 950 probably came stock on your detector, and finally the Maxima 1500. A 15" monster for finding deep relics.
Coils you want to avoid are listed to work on the M6, MXT, XLT, DFX, and Prizm series detectors.

Like someone already stated , look for the Max label. A few others work, but that is the general idea. The Bullseye 5.3 is a great compliment to the stock 950 coils.

I think sometimes when I get to looking and reading a lot about detectors that sometimes it just all runs together. I have looked at the White's site several times and I even called them once. I have to make a correction to my post. The Blue and Gray Pro is NOT the same as the Coin Master 5900 Di Professional Series (circa 1985). I don't know what I was thinking. The CM 5900 Di Professional Series is a blue box detector. Your Blue and Gray Pro is the same as a Coin Master 5900 Di Pro SL (CB). The 5900 Di Pro SL is a black box unit that uses 4 'C' cell batteries and has a 10 turn potentiometer to adjust GEB. A completely different machine than the 1985 blue box edition. I apologize for any confusion I may have caused.

I know it can get very confusing, that is one reason I do all that extra typing and try to use the complete model name of each detector.

I look at the 5900/6000 detectors as having three generations.
1. The early "blue box" detectors
2. The "black box" slim line detectors (including your B&G)
3. The current "black box" detectors (with very small boxes and 'AA' battery packs)
3a. There was no 5900 series detector produced in this configuration. Only the 6000 Pro XL and the XL Pro
3b. The 6000 Pro XL and XL Pro are the same detectors with different stickers. The XL Pro being the last of the series.

Dang, another correction! I have to claim dain bramage on that one. I was looking at my wall, and listing my newer detectors (because of the higher freq.) and my XLT was there. You are absolutely correct, the Blue and Gray can use any coil that the XLT can use.
