New with the Excalibur II help setting it up

bret4

New member
just received the Excalibur II going to take it to the beach but would like a little help with setting the dials. the discriminate, sensitivity, volume, treshold and disc/ pinpoint.

Well I'm no expert with the excal but from my experiance, for fresh water DISC 4, SENS at 12:00 THRESHOLD just audiable VOLUME as high as you can stand with a quarter as a target.... Salt water DISC at 1 every thing else the same as fresh water ..keep the coil level to the ground and hunt SLOW.

hope this helps....start with these settings and adj to your liking

Grumpy (TX)

Saltwater:
Discrimination: NO DISCRIMINATION
Sensitivity: Set the arrow toward coil
Threshold: Just barely hear the tone so you can hear the blanks
Swing Slow and even height, make sure you clean the coil cover often.
Dig everything. Have fun!

Hello bret. Set to Disc, Volume wide open, Threshold barely audible. Sensitivity on 6 and Discrimination on 1. Sweep slow (about 1' per second), level and low. Dig anything that gives you a repeatable signal. Git cha some mate!

hello, good luck with your Excalibur 11, i have one my self and i really enjoy it.
as i live here in Fla,kissimmee and in north Carolina, i go to the beach allot, Ive been
gulf side as well as Atlantic side and have had allot of success as I'm too a new bie,
but after reading the different books and guides on these forums,Ive found that once you understand
the tones and pitches for each object, you find allot..every time Ive gone out Ive found coins a couple of rings
necklace and so on,Ive even gone to where the Spanish ship wrecks are at and found a Small piece of silver.
now Ive only had my machine since September and I'm to still learning about it as i too am new to this hobby, but I'm having allot of fun,
ill be headed to the beaches next week...

I just received my new Excal II and used the settings that Gulf Hunter posted and they worked great on the NC coast in the wet sand. The machine ran very stable I have not taken it into the surf yet. Thanks to Gulf Hunter and all the other Excal veterans for all the informative post.

Also remember to get a straight shaft mount and the knob protector.

Minelab has great machines but the Excalibur is terrible on ergonomics.

I love my Excal even more with the straight shaft. Makes for a very comfortable machine to swing all day long.

hello,
I'm just curious as to why you run the sensitivity at 6 as in your picture?
I'm new to a Excalibur 11 my self and still learning myself.
Ive been running sensitivity at a 10, so I'm i doing this wrong or what am i missing here??

Lemme break it down fer ye mate. If you have your dial set to 10 on the Excal II's sensitivity, you are REALLY pushing the unit. It will more than liekly cause the unit to go into the EXTREMELY high pitched tone and it will be irratic and unstable in all but the most unmineralized enviroments. You ARE losing depth, savvy? Get on 6, that is where it needs to be, MAYBE 5, but any lower and you are going to have issues more than likely. Just as a matter of reference, the Excal will be at 12 or pointing towards the coil, or about 11 max. Best of luck JOHNMARKAM!

hello, thanks for the info, ill try this next week as ill be headed to the beach again..
now is this the same if i want to go on land and hunt in a red clay area as to what we have up here
in north Carolina??where Ive been running it i thought i was having really good results, i can only
imagine what ill get now?? thanks..
