New XP Deus on the way!

Hey guys this is the first post I have on the forum. Hope it's ok? Just wanted to ask...... I'm coming from an E Trac and I've traded it for an XP. Just wondered what I can expect? I know it's not a minelab, but how is it on coins? What do I need to learn?

Welcome Firedigger
What part of the world do you reside in?
I haven't used an E-trac so I don't know the differences.
From what I've read the E-trac has a more flutier sound than the Deus in Full tones.
Take your time
Get Andy Sabisch's book http://www.sabischbooks.com/books/xp/
Watch these 10 videos starting with #1 the rest are listed to the right. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYz6Kip4M2I
And ask questions as you go, there are a bunch of knowledgeable people here on the forum.
Good luck and congrats on the new purchase.

I reside in North Carolina. I mostly coin hunt but I do enjoy finding the occasional relic! The deus that's coming to me has the 11" coil. How deep on u.s. Coins is the deus do you think. The etrac just struggled so bad in heavy iron. The recovery so slow, I slowed down too, bought a smaller coil, the only thing that did was make the machine iron false a lot! Hoping I can get in the iron more with this machine. A little bit about me....... I'm a full time firefighter, and enjoy detecting on my days off. Great stress relieve and I just enjoy finding history. Thanks all for your time in advance!!

You'll have no regrets in the IRON!
You made a very wise choice!!!
Buy Andy's book from him and give
him a call. He's a Great guy and
great for the hobby. His Boot-camps
are excellent... Good Luck figuring
out The Awesome Deus!!!! Your good finds
will come fast with this unit right from
the get go
silverseeker 2

Thanks so much for the reassurance! Yep I got Andys book coming with the machine. Always a minelab guy, just know there's something better in the iron. GOTTA BE!!

My Deus has had a few "shootouts" with the sons CTX in very trashy areas, very even results with neither of us being able to say which is best. Both of us have resorted to digging any signal that gives anything like a good tone, we were both leaving too many small coins only digging definite good tones, thus at our present level of experience doubt either will have you only digging positives. Maybe that will change as we gain experience but I doubt a detector-user combination can ever be even near 100% sure in trashy areas. Magnet brooms will always have a use. You`ll love the lightness and compactness of the Deus, it can be as simple as you want or explore its many features and experiment to suit your experience and ground conditions.

Welcome to the forum !

I've had my E-Trac for 7 years and I never plan on selling it - got my Deus approx. four months ago ... I love it !
A lot of people told me that's it a good idea to just run in Basic 1 for the first month or so - till I got a feel for the machine - so I did - dug over 100 old coins in my first month.

As many others will tell you - the Deus is more of a "sound" machine than a target ID machine - the target ID is not as accurate at depth as the Minelab's and it's also not as good on the salt water beaches. Aside from these two things ... the Deus it's nothing short of fantastic !

It's also a very good idea to get a copy Andy Sabisch's Deus Handbook and be sure to watch Gary's ( from the UK ) video series on the Deus !

Good Luck !

Hey guys thanks so much. Got the deus yesterday. Haven't been out with it yet, but reading Andys book already. What kind of depth can I expect out of the deus in basic 1?

Basic1 will be more than deep enough for your for starting, infact its the main prog that i use all the time, you wont hear a great amount of iron unless its big,its a superb starter prog but alot of folks just use that all the time.Dont start getting complicated just when you got a new machine, just because it has many alterations setting wise does not mean its wise to start adjusting them straight out the box.

Trust me,as you have such a short time duration on this new site, just fire it up in Basic 1 and start detecting,if it beep its a good target usually, you dont have time to read books and go on bootcamps or anything like this, just Basic1 and detect,it is that simple

Thanks so much for the useful info Mega! I think I'm starting to fall in love with this machine!
