New XP Deus Owner!

Not new to detecting - been in the hobby for about 15 years. I just added an XP Deus to my arsenal. Now I have a CTX 3030, a modified ATX and the screaming fast XP Deus. Purchased the WS5 package with the 11' and 9" coils. Had to make one modification out of the box. The tiny shaft stand on the bottom of the arm cuff assembly wasn't very stable. More often than not, when I laid the detector down, it tipped over. The fix - a spare 6 inch retractable spring loaded rifle bipod mounted to the bottom of the shaft - expandable to 9 inches. Added less than a pound, but talk about stability! Also helps to counterbalance the weight of the 11" coil. Looking forward to getting this machine out - been reading Andy's book, reading the forum and watching YouTube for tips and tricks. detecting:

Nice work.......but I bet that bi-pod weighs as much as the detector itself:laugh:

You are right about it tipping over when you set it down to dig!
 
Looks like a nice clean job but if you ever decide to mount your pinpointer to the upper shaft, that's going to be one scary looking machine.

Nice work but to much weight! LOL! I don't really look at the display and so I leave it off the wand and will probably hunt that way letting the tones tell me what may be under the coil. So, I'll just keep it light!
 
With the exception of the base, most of the stand is a reinforced plastic - very solid. Again, the total assembly weighs less than a pound and the balance of the detector with the larger coils is much better. Good trade off.....and still way lighter than my CTX3030 or my modified ATX. In fact, I liked the XP Deus shaft and my bipod idea so much, I purchased another XP Deus shaft assembly and rebuilt my ATX - the total weight on my arm went down from 8+ pounds to 4 pounds. The first photo below was before I added the bipod and painted the coil black and white. I sling the ATX control unit under my arm for access....affectionately call it the AT/XP.....:rofl:
 
I really don't care if mine rolls over except when I'm on a hill, then it's hard to catch.

You did well with your hybrid XP/AT!!! It's an expensive proposition but going from 8 to 4 lbs on your arm all day really makes it worth it!
 
I like the idea of using the Deus shaft for another detector.Ive been running this idea around myself to lighten up a few models.Good Idea!
