Newbie here, need some answere

Hi all, Merry Christmas!...I just bought my son the VLF and was wondering if it can be used in cold snow and wet weather?
We live in SE Michigan.
Please help!!! I have no clue other than what I've read and the instruction manual that came with this thing. LOL.

If you use it in wet weather you should have some type of rain cover on it.
I've used clear plastic bags over the main control box.If you hunt in water be careful not to drop it or lift it up with the coil higher than the control box or the water will run down the shaft into the control box and the detector will be toast.
I've used my detector in the cold weather below low freezing but once the batteries start to freeze
the signals will detoriate.Should be good for an hour or so depends on the cold.

I did a Post on detecting in cold temperatures I think back a year ago here. I have no idea if that old Post is still around but I had found the information from specifications on a few of the various detectors made and even recieved an answer back from BH on their machines.

For years, I've detected in snow and over frozen ground. The only machines I'm aware of that are temperature effected untill they equal out are some of the older machines with manual ground ballance. Anyway, it was amazing how cold and hot these machines can be and still use them. I would however consider the possibility of condensation and allow any machine to equalize and appear dry before using them. It's rare I bother to detect in rain so I suspect you want to cover the machine control housing with a clear bag or someing made for it.
