Newbie with Safari

New member
Newbie to MDing just purchased my very first MD a Minelab Safari and love it. I have always wanted to try my hand at MDing and just recently got my chance so here I am. I made a very nice find the evening I got my Safari but nothing major since but that's the fun of it, the not knowing what each beep might bring. I really enjoying the hunt for the unknown LOL. Any suggestions or advice from anyone will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for anything you guys could share with me.

Have some fun getting to know the controls and feel, then, to really get a feel for it get hold of a copy of "The Minelab Quattro & Safari Handbook by Andy Sabisch".

+1 on the Sabich book. Read it twice, then go back and study it. Seriously, it will help you.

Depending on the type of hunting you do, I tell new folks to screen everything except 36-39 and go to the park to learn coin tones and basic machine manipulation. Use hi trash, auto sensitivity and learn how fast to swing. This is JUST for coins (minus zinc pennies and nickels) and silver, but it also teaches you a a lot about how to read trash, pinpoint, background, etc....

But if you are hunting a beach, just leave all the +numbers open and dig everything. If that's too much trash for you, move closer to the water until you find your tolerance level. note: its amazing how much your tolerance level goes up right after you find a nice piece of jewelry in the dry sand at a beach!

Highly recommend Andy's book, great read, invaluable information.

Learn the "sounds" of the machine, don't worry about the screen. Listen to what it is telling you, then you can't go wrong.

BUT most of all...

HAVE FUN! Play with it, its a GREAT Machine and I am sure you will have a SUPER time with it!

PM me if you have any questions, will be glad to help you!

WELCOME!!

Got it ordered today thanks for the info guys. So many telling me the same thing, check out this book big time so as soon as it arrives I am diveing in.

Coins can read all over but 37/38 and 39 are dimes and quarters and silver dollars are 34 and half dimes so you don't want to just dig high numbers.also indian heads are around 31 nickles 14 hold all over just dig it all Untill you get used to it good luck.
