Newbie with Sharp Shooter II

Dyna_Willie

New member
I got a Sharp Shooter II for Christmas. Where do I start? Local parks? Golf course? Is my detector good enough quality to find treasures? Any suggestions or input will be greatly appreciated. Dyna_Willie

Thats a Merry Xmas present indeed! Your Sharp shooter will find the same as the more expensive detectors in the BH lineup. The depth and tones are the same. All the VLF BH machines will find the goodies, the more expensive machines just have more bells and whistles thats all. If you are near childrens playgrounds (especially the sand ones) thats a good place to start, even the chip bark playgrounds are full of other peoples wealth. I have found so many coins and jewelery items in these parks it boggles the mind. If you have any beaches nearby, (salt or fresh) then they are a source of good LOOT too. I own 2 BH tracker IV's which are very low cost detectors, and have found between $20,000 to $30,000 worth if coins and jewelery in the last couple of years. I upgraded to the 10" coil for the beaches etc to cover more ground, as time is money. I detect full time for a living, I use the BH's in the parks, and other detectors in different detecting situations. It's horses for courses. I found 1 ring worth $5,477 on the beach with the BH and 10" coil. The discrimination works extremely well on the BH units too. While your in the learning phase, just enjoy it. As time goes by, you will be able to pick the tones of different items! Welcome to a wonderful hobby. Regards Nugget.:ausflag::)

WOW! That is awesome nugget. I am ready to get started, I have some time off coming up and plan on putting some days into my new hobby. Thanks for the advise. Willie

Wow...that is an awesome present to get for Christmas...A Present that will bring you increasing joy with every use...But I have to warn ya!!! Once you find your first treasure, your gonna be hooked...It is an addiction that has to be fed....It will keep you learning for years to come...Learning about History, different metals, different Cultures, you name it...I think I like the research as much as the hunt, and the more research you do, the better places you find to hunt.
BTW, if you do not mind the asking...What part of the World are you from???

Happy Hunting,

I am in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. I was thinking about buying a site guide, or a GPS site locater. We have a lot of civil war artifacts through out PA. Willie

You should have a ton of stuff to find in your neck of the woods there...I use Google Earth a LOT to look at the terrain around my area...I discover many old houses that have fallen or burned down this way...you can actually see them if you zoom in close...Also, look in you local library for history of your area...there is a wealth of information there...Become a member of your local Historic Society...the fellow members are a wealth of information...

Happy Hunting, and let us see your first finds,

BH-LandStar

Hello, I am also a newbie, I got a Quickdraw II for Christmas and have already found a couple of coins and my wedding band that I lost 8 years ago!
Got me out of a long doghouse stay and I am already hooked on the hobby. Good luck.

That is great news, finding your wedding band after 8 years! WOW! I hope to go out on New Years Eve day, and then again on New Years Day. There is a tot lot I am going to explore, and a park that they had a 5 day POW WOW on a few months ago. I think these may be a good place to start, I will let you know what I find. Willie

Hi Dyna Willie, enjoy your new hobby, and take time to learn it. there is allot to learn if you want to. make sure that you learn the codes and ethics and how to dig a hole. and if you dont have one yet i would invest into a pin pointer, very handy. good luck and good hunting!

It must have been great to recover the wedding band after 8 long years...I hope it was still like new...Your both off to great starts...it only gets better... :detecting:

Happy Hunting,
