hi all!!
im new to the forum and pretty new to detecting. i have only been a handfull of times with a second hand tesoro compadre i bought off ebay.
i went to my first rally the other day and was totally embarrassed by the size of my 5.75inch coil compared to the big boys there, but i found a few coins and some other interesting items whichi was happy with. i am now totally hooked and have managed to talk the wife into letting me buy an f5 on friday......... i cant wait!!!
i have been reading through some of your posts and noticed people have been putting there settings in posts. would any of you recommend settings that i should be using as a complete noob to this type of machine or is it just all metals and learn my machine in time? any hints/tips would be greatly appreciated!
i am in england and will be going over ploughed farm land for anything of interest....... if that makes any difference!

You may want to run in all metal to get to know your machines language. HH

If you aren't aware of it already, use the advanced search function of FMall to look up.......Mike Hillis.............he is the F5 guru. It will greatly accelerate your learning curve and increase your finds.

If your hunting merry old england....and you dont have any RFI issues............I recommend you open that bad boy up. Low conductors are the holy grail over there.....and they are easy to miss. Lots will advise you to start off slow and detuned...............but I disagree. Learn the way you will be hunting. you have sweet soil. Run it as hot as possible without instability................lower the disc ... crank the threshold.....and have at it. Those deep cut hammies and stators WILL hide from you if you run it tame. The F5 is a VERY capable machine. Good luck!

thanks lads your advice is much appreciated!! ill know ill definately be coming back here every 5 minutes for hints/ tips ect! please could you explain what you mean by hot??? hehe dont mean to sound thick or nowt!

HOT=higher than normal/or maximum sensitivity & gain............read all of Mike Hillis' posts on F5...........all will be answered He has covered just about every concievable thing regarding the operation of a F5. We think very highly of him.
