Next hunt Dig the first 5 without the TID meter!!

Hey guys I was on you tube the other day and found a video of this guy using an E-Trac. In video he had his TID meter covered so he could not see it and he stated that was challenged to find his first 5 targets by ears only. I thought this was kind of interesting, and the guy found a silver dime and wheaties by ear. So tomorrow I am going to challenged myself and the first 5 target I dig will be found by my ears only. What do you think?

John

I think its a great idea, there are many many musicians who play by ear, myself included. Training the ear to pick up subtle changes and differences in pitch and tone is a good thing. The human brain has the capacity to store and bring back to remembrance all the different sounds and tones and pitches associated with many different targets. Let us know how it went !! Good luck!! Hummm, interesting, I believe I will try it too my next hunting trip. Let us know how you do. Speaking for myself, I believe I would learn to recognize tones a lot quicker if I did that every time I went out. Thanks for the thought.

Right On John!

OK guys here are the picture of my first five targets. The very first one was a wheat cent I recovered at about 5 inches. It is green and I can not see the date on the coin but I can see the wheat ears on the back. Ground here in western PA like to eat up copper coins. Then next target was a 1984 nickle, then the bottom of a aluminum can, the screw cap, and last the 1978 cent. Your turn.

I went out this morning to a t-ball and soccer field, only had about an hour to hunt. I had the whole LCD screen taped with black electrical tape. My first find was a '74 penny, next was what looks to be a knock-out for an electrical box - it was right at 6" deep and at first I thought 'Silver Dollar' because of the tone and the size, but, it was what it was and I did get excited for a moment. Next two were pennies and then my favorite, a twist top. By covering the screen completely, I only had audio; no target ID #, no depth indicator, and no Identification Bar. The one thing I believe it helped me most was how to pinpoint my target because neither did I have the pinpoint graphical display, only tone.

Anyway, here is my first five.

If you are really serious about learning tones, purchase a Sovereign. Think of the money you will save on electrical tape...

Here we go Gents,

I have got to say that I am right on par with whats been posted so far. The city park I went to is a park that I have hauled a ton of clad out with my old BH detector.
I just used a big piece of blue painters tape to hide the display and off I went. The setup I used was: High trash, coin/jewel mode and auto sensitivity.

The results: (1) Bud Light bottle cap, (1) Arcade token, (1) 1975 penny, (1) 1966 dime & a rolled up wad of foil.

Great fun, Thanks for the task John!
