For about the last 7 or 8 years I have wanted to make a theme of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" for an outside decoration. Every year, Christmas would come and go, and I'd tell myself, maybe next year. We'll, I'll be turning 70 Good Lord willing in February, which means my next years are getting fewer. This year I bit the bullet and tried to make time, and I started work on this just before Thanksgiving. In all, it took me just over two weeks to complete. I tried to stay as true to the cartoon as I could. Mr. Charles Schulz was one of my favorite animators and cartoonist. There was a story about him in 1965 when the "Charlie Brown Christmas" was created and first aired. Some of the sponsors did not like the part of the Christmas Story being told by Linus in the play. They wanted it removed or threatened to not air the show at all. Mr. Schulz asked why they wanted this part removed. The producer responded that they didn't think the world was ready to be told about Christmas by a child. Mr Schulz then responded, what better source to hear the Christmas Story from, but from the lips of an innocent child? The producer was said to be adamant about the removal of this part. Charles Schulz then stood up to all of them and told them that the Christmas Story was the nucleus of the whole show, and that it stays in or it won't aire at all. We'll, we know the final outcome. 60 years of " A Charlie Brown Christmas" has entertained the world over. You always knew it was close to Christmas when this came on the TV. My Christmas was made finally getting around to attempting to do this. I hope I did Mr. Schulz justice, God rest him. We have a lot of kids in our family and in our neighborhood, and I did this in hopes of maybe bringing a smile to their face. I hope that maybe it will bring a smile to your face as well. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
