Nice day for hunting with the Vision

The weather was great so I went hunting with the Vision at a couple parks today with my Dad. I'm still learning what VDI on the Vision is what coin, but it also displays icons so you almost don't have to learn the numbers.

I ended up finding two wheaties, 1956-d and 1916-p. The detector said they were about 6" or so, but I think they were shallower. Overall today the detector was running very stable and quite, except for when I had a target under the coil. I was still running Coins mode with Tone ID turned ON and a single frequency of 2.5kHz.

Only when I was directly under some power lines did the detector start to act up, and I didn't try to change the frequency offset... I just moved a little to my left and the noise was gone.

At the second park, I wasn't finding much... I think my Dad might have something to do with that. There's just nothing left! So I decided to bury a clad quarter at 12" out in the middle of the field. The dirt is fairly mixed with clay, but not so much that it's hard to dig or anything. Once I dug this hole, I looked down there and thought to myself, "that's a freaking deep hole". I've never dug a coin from this depth before. I have dug some pieces of aluminum that deep, and beyond.

The Vision was hitting this quarter at 12" with good Tone ID, but the VDI was reading high... usually 93 when it should be 83, but sometimes it would say 83... but mostly 91-94. The depth meter would report 9.5" to 10.25". Pinpointing would sometimes say 11" but mostly it was 10.5" or so. I know I definitely put that quarter at exactly 12" from the top of the ground too. Tone ID would report on most passes over the spot, but sometimes it wouldn't. This was still running Coins mode with Tone ID turned ON and a single frequency of 2.5kHz. Also I have the ground filter set for 5.0Hz high, and a recovery delay of 50. Rx Gain was 5 and Discrim Sensitivity was 90. This was definitely a target I would see, and dig now that I know a really deep high VDI is not necessarily a crown cap. I'm pretty interested to try my E-Trac on that quarter because I know a field that should have barber quarters at 12" :)

Hopefully I can get a little hunting in tomorrow too :)

Good info Brett. Could you go any higher on the RX and still be stable? Also did you try the TX boost any? When you go back out to test may want to try those.
I am getting the best depth on Mixed mode pro with a few tweeks. The deep silver program will hit deep but is tiring on the ears.

I did a little testing against my E-Track yesterday. Get yours out and do some testing too think you may be suprised what you find.
